Damn, third RIP rider story I've seen today. And that's pretty close to where I live.

+1

keep your senses sharp. if you suspect a left turn, move you bike to a position where they can see you and flash the lights. get ready to MOVE!

This is what they said in da news paper..............?

At 2:37 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, Roseville Police and Fire personnel responded to Galleria Boulevard near Antelope Creek Drive, to a collision between a 2003 Mercedes Benz four-door sedan and a 2007 Honda motorcycle. Paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist, Igor Kravchuk, 21, of Sacramento, dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes, a 65 year-old woman from Granite Bay, did not require ambulance transportation.

The Mercedes was turning left into the entrance to the Galleria mall from northbound Galleria Boulevard. Mr. Kravchuk was riding his motorcycle southbound on Galleria Boulevard, and struck the Mercedes broadside.

Even though I'm all for wearing gear, in cases like this, there is no amount of gear that could've saved him. If he had a helmet and didn't make through it, he could have been naked only with a helmet and it would be the same.

The injuries that killed him weren't road rash and some fractures on the limbs.

The best gear is the one between your ears. Keep your senses sharp, and always on the lookout. Still, some things are unavoidable.

RIP and godspeed for a fellow rider

You have a point, we're still pretty vulnerable in leather and protectors, but you do wonder how much might have been prevented with full gear (or even new gear thats not common yet, like those airbag suits). Maybe a good back proctector could've done some bit for him depending on the case.
And if the strap wasn't tied on the helmet it wouldnt be much use.

Its awful, you could be doin everything right and someone makes a wrong move and its over.
RIP

Yeah but, wearing gear on a bike can reduce injuries and deaths is all.. You said it in your first post, right?

I just loosen some screws in my head

One of my best memories of riding is returning to CCS after a 2day track event, with a backpack strapped to the back with the bike, that had everything I used that weekend (clothes, camping tent, sleeping bag, etc)...at night, under a heavy rain and in a 2 lane interstate road that has a lot of fast turns and in heavy traffic.

There were some puddles so big, that the crest from the wave that my front tire made, sometimes would engulf me and the bike when crashing down!!!

It was fun for a while, but then I decided to stop. It stopped being fun and became dangerous. Stopped on a little roadside restaurant and got funny looks from people when I removed my boots and turned them upside down and it looked like they had a gallon of water inside LOL

RIP! its tragic to see or hear reports of people dying doing something as simple as making a left turn. i ride a 78 kawi 250 ftw here around dixon and davis. people really don't give anyone on a bike the respect on the road as they should. its like we are treated as another osbactle in the road! i have road dirt since i was 5 and recently transitioned to the streets but to risk death over lack of respect is sad. mike
