Okay first I'm sure there are tons of us who actually know how to do this... I figured I'd just share incase there are those who do not know.

Scenario: 1993 Honda Civic DX (autotragic

) - No Tach
Goal:: swap to tach and retain miles of actual the chassis

Here is what my car had to start with: Giant ass temp and gas gauge.

here is the eBay purchased EX auto Gauge... DIRTY!!!

[b]First step is getting the plastic shield off, this isn't exactly easy and requires a bit of patience as it is glued to the black piece... just take your time and slowly lift up on each major end

Once the plastic shield is off, the rest is a breeze, just push back these tabs, there are 3 on the top and 3 on the bottom, they generally come out with ease

Now I have both opened up and ready to at this point, swap out the speedo to retain my actually chassis miles

First thing is remove these two screws, having looked back at it, I don't think you need to remove them at all, but these two looked pretty nasty compared to the one that came with my car, so I swapped em..

remove these 3 screws on the backside of the speedo

now that it's free, pull it out, repeat on the other cluster and replace

now that I had two clusters and double the parts, I took the best looking part of each cluster to get a better looking cluster

cleaned everything up before putting it back together

use a bit of this to keep the plastic back together

and voila, I now have a tach, gas/temp together... and my new addition to the right, the OEM clock w00t w00t

Nice write up

the only thing I would change is I would use a little silicone adhesive instead of super glue. The vapors given off by super glue can condense on the clear plastic and leave a hazy film you cant get off

if you can find a lx cluster from an auto or manual, swap out the tach's. the lx/dx motor has a 6,500 redline, so it will be right for your motor

that's a good idea actually, but already partial to the fact that this tach goes to 9k :D

thats what i did to mines, and it feels better i guess lol when im flooring it and shifiting it right at redline if i i need to. not that i do it all the time, but its just a nice feature since its the right rpm redline for your engine. I had a ex cluster for a year before i found a lx cluster at a junkyard... gotta love the d15by's lol

i just bought a cluster with the tach. i put my original speedo and everything.. when i plugged everything up and started the car.. the rpms slowly went up to 1k.. i pushed the gas but it didnt move anymore. i also have a full tank of gas and the gauge says half.. please help

instead of taking the clear plastic off and regluing, cant you just take the tach and fuel/temp gauge out of the ex and put them in the appropriate place on the stock cluster? I would definately recommend using your stock speedo, as I have bought an ex that the speedo didn't work on.

WARNING!!!!
Be very careful if you are removing/installing the fuel/temp cluster - the tiny wires have a tendency to break when you are reinstalling.

You'll know you're f'd when your screw starts twirling in place as you are screwing it back in. The key is not to over-tighten. This is very difficult to fix (if at all) and for those not skilled with a soldering gun and blessed with a steady hand and a boatload of patience, you are likely better off just getting a new temp/fuel cluster.

accually all i did was remove the black rubber piece off of the tripometer reset button and i didnt have to remove the clear plastic at all

I believe you should be able to take off the clear plastic with the black housing, without taking the clear plastic off, unless you wanna clean it. I made a tiny error on that last one too. I took the EX cluster and switched the speedos. Quick and easy. took 2 secs and bolts right in.

I have a 93 DX Auto... Does it have a Tach Wire already installed in Harness? An can i Install my OD. Gauge into the Ex for 5 speed an plug n go?

(Already did Auto to manual conversion, so this is last thing i want to do to convert it.. cause i have B20V an need a Tach lol)

Just wasn't sure. thats all.

Yes, just take your OD and slap it on the EX cluster. Plug it up and you should be good to go.
