99 EX accord paint.
so on the top right before the sunroof, the paint is like all gone. same thing happening on the trunk. the paint is just fading and left with a disgusting gunmetal color.
any ideas on what to do? should i go to autozone and buy that little bottle with the paint in it or just get the car repainted?

I would just start waxing the car on a regular basis, might slow down the progression.
I personally would not spend hundreds or a thousand on a new paint job on a car that's almost ten years old.

You have to repaint it.
its the clear coat that is peeling off. That needs to be sanded off now. You can't blend it by just spraying a clear over it. Mine is down to the primer in some spots.
If its only the roof and trunk, you can get only those locations resprayed.
Honda paint sucks.

This is the first time I've heard of bad paint on a Honda.
Something else happened here, maybe acid rain, maybe the owner never waxed their car, something.

i think mines down to the primer too. its all rough underneath it. should i go to murrays and get those tiny bottles and paint over it? http://www.partsamerica.com/Pr...3277E

My 2000 black accord has the same problem except its very little. But its gonna progress and continue on. In my opinon its like a disease, once it starts its gonna keep peeling form that area until you repaint it. And as the posters above had said the clear coat is gone. Thats the price you gotta pay when you own a black car and its 8+ yrs old.

Once the clear start to peel, means that whenever the clear is gone, the paint is down to the base color. There's no need to use compound and polish... that is totally worthless, because you can't make the base color shine...
It's really common in florida, the paint being exposed to the sun will eventually fade away, starting from the clear to become dull and the paint to fade its color.
It's not just the sun, it's acid rain, it's chemicals on water, products that you may put in your car, the wrong kind of soap being used on the car.
A lot of people wash their cars with household detergent (the one for dishes), which are made to break down grease and stuff like that. Problem is that dish soap is too strong for the paint, by actually removing polish/wax from the paint.
If you can cover your car to protect the paint, that's a good thing.
There are too many things that will lead to that problem, but a few tips on helping the paint stay "healthier" can be:
wash the car whenever is needed; (be conscious about not wasting water!!)
wax on the paint every 3 to 4 months; (and not every weekend...lol..)
use a clay bar to pick up things that you can't really see on the paint surface; (you will start to see once its actually picked up by the clay bar, prevents a lot of problems on the paint for the future!).
And just to really get back on topic here... once the clear start to peel off like that, you need to repaint the panel. Depending on the amount of peeling, you might as well get the entire car painted.
