How to adjust clutch cable?
I just put an aftermarket clutch on my 88 crx a6 and can't seem to get it into gears. I mean I could when the car is off, but when the car is on, it grinds when trying to move to gears. My guess is might be my clutch cable?? So how am I suppose to adjust the cable line. Should it be tight with lilo or no play on the releasing arm? Also when I pull the release arm with my hand, is it suppose to be stiff or easy to pull?? I have no idea, so hopefully somebody here could help me thanks.

yeah an aftermarket clutch will be tough to move by the arm by hand.
and you'll want to thread the little plastic nut backwards to adjust for what you need.
also, fwiw, there is a nice trick using a hose clamp to stiffen that fat rubber shim in there too so it wont balloon out under the pressure of a stiff aftermarket clutch.
try both and report back.
if that doesnt work ther may be a problem with the install.

would it [freak] up, if I max out on my cable line? Whats the proper way to adjust it? Like get a guy to step on the clutch while you adjusted it?? I try your idea today and post back later

simply turn the adjuster ****.
you want it sort of tight, but you need to leave a tiny bit of slack on the release arm.

Re: How to adjust clutch cable? (grog)
How I set mine is... I grab the cable above the adj nut and pull up with a very little pressure say 5 lb. While you pull up on the cable the adj nut should be just touching the place where it seats. So then when you let go of the cable the cable should feel loose, but just a bit loose.
This will get you close then try turning it a half a turn at a time till you get the proper feel. I set mine so it starts to grab about 1 1/2 inches off the floor.

Re: How to adjust clutch cable? (thesmogman)
Yeah I adjusted my clutch cable and try to get to where it needs to be, but its so damn hard to twist the freakie nut, I have like 1" of free play, and Im like max out its tight tight. Im not sure if its suppose to be like that. But still no luck, cant get into gears at all when engine is on, only when engine is off I could slide it in to gears. Could it be my clutch disc, clutch plate, bearings, cable line?????Like I say its crazy I need help bad, need to get my car running, help a broke man out. Anybody with any suggestion please feel free. Thanks

can you take a pic of the clutch arm under the hood? mine was bent a little where the cable is attached.
also, i've found that moving the clutch pedal by hand is a good way to feel where it actually moves the plate. it will be relatively easy at first...and then BAM it gets more difficult. you want just a little room before you feel that change. the less play (or more tension), the more you are SURE to release the clutch. but too much and it will never fully engage. if you can't get it to shift after all this, then something is wrong inside

Re: How to adjust clutch cable? (zrickety)
I have another question, on the pressure plate you know how the teeth is like upward alittle, and when you install it to torque specs on the flywheel is the teeth suppose to change like bend flat???..Whats the possibilities that my pressure plate spring is fawk that's why is not disengage my clutch, when the clutch pedal is press?? How can I tell? Can I use my stock pressure plate with my aftermarket clutch disc, would this work??
