Default EX rotors, ITR calipers, 14in 88-89 OEM CRX rims?

Before i do this swap, I need to know if I am going to need to swap back to my 15in wheels. The 15's are a ferry ride away, which will cost me $105.

So I want to know if it is necessary to swap out my 14s. Plus I like the OEM styling of the 14's better.

Anyone who has tried specificly 88-89 OEM CRX rims with the Jonothan mod, chime in. Ive read the thread and the only guy that mentioned trying 14s used Nissan wheels. Another mentioned 14in steelies worked...

PS. i think i got the last new 90-91 Civic EX MC in Canada/US.

I used to have ex knuckles but not with ITR calipers. It fits over my stock 14" blades and my 14" steelies, however, you need to grind the caliper a bit to make the clearance.

I'm not sure about the ITR calipers tho. hope that helps.

only one way to find out. you can always do a test fitment on just one front knuckle & wheel, the 88-91 civic/crx caliper are held on by 2 bolts. without removing the brake line from the caliper, you can install the itr caliper & 10.3" rotor and see if the 88-89 crx wheels fit & spin freely. i believe your problem is going to be offset, the calipers might be too big for the wheel to spin, which is why JUSTCRX suggested shaving or grinding the caliper for clearance. i know the del sol oem 14" 5-spoke wheels clear (just barely...literally millimeters) on this brake set-up (DX knuckles, ITR calipers w/ milled brackets & 10.3" rotors). i've also heard that 14" volks te37 (with the correct offset) will work as well.

shit its gonna be close eh... i plan on using the exact same setup. id switch to the 14in del sols anyday too. haha

i could possibly just pop the caliper off and do a little zip tie action... good idea

while we are here it would be nice if someone who has tried can still chime in

what's great about this mod is that if you ever plan on upgrading your 88-91 civic/crx w/ 90-93 integra knuckles or 90-91 civic ex 4dr knuckles, you can use your itr calipers w/ the milled 23T (or 25T) brackets & go with a bigger 11" rotor (from a prelude re-drilled to 4X100 or fastbrakes.com). the machined brackets can also be used with nsx calipers & legend gs 2-pot calipers.

* btw, did you file the pads down a lil bit? my pads didn't clear the hat of the 10.3" rotor.

* the only con of this mod is filing (or bench-grinding) the pads every time you change your pads with the 10.3" rotor

the 14in 88-89 alloys dont fit. the caliper hits the back of the rim. oh well.

You have to grind about 2mm from the caliper bracket. Takes about 10 seconds per side with an angle grinder.

damn. lol

i already got my 15in wheels on. but thats good to know.

here are the ITR brakes on 90 Civic DX hubs. The rotos are off a 91 Civic EX (same as 90-94 teg Exc. ABS) No Hub-centric rings, even tho i made some. no problems or weird vibrations when braking.

i had a slight rubbing issue (outside edge of rotor hitting inside of caliper). but ive decuted it is due to faulty machining. they are slightly angled. ill never go back there.

Heres a link to the writeup I did on it, I have the ITR calipers and the rims are 16's, its pretty close, I think you might clear with 15's but no way 14's. But you can see how they fit with my 16's.

thanks for your write up... ive had them on my car for a few months

you obviously dont read well, this thread is designed to show ppl what 14in wheels fit over the ITR calipers.

many do. you are

Old school Integra 14in alloys (88/89) dont fit over the ITR caliper. the bracket hits the inside of the rim, just like the 88/89 crx wheels.

yeah I tried some 88/89 wheels with da knuckles and they didnt clear the caliper but the 90-91 si wheels did clear, they might work with the itr calipers

i love the look of 90/91's... one of my favs for sure

im gonna test fit some next time i head out of town (know a guy sellin some)

im pissed off, because since i put these brakes on, ive gotten into drag racing

15in wheels with drag racing dont mix well on an old school ef honda.. hehe

but i think i can manage with 14's and the added weight up front is a bonus

What is the advantage of itr calipers over a good set of EX calipers and HP+ pads? Seems half ass to me.

when u did this brake upgrade did u have to file down the brake pads? i want to do this upgrade, but i really don't want to have to file down brand new pads everytime i change them out.

Yea pretty stupid lol. EX calipers are good enough with proper rotor and pads. With ITR Rotors and calipers combo you aren't going to stop better. ITR HAS ABS!

more friction surface means less over all wear each time you stop. also means more rotor is being grabbed and it will take less time to slow down.
