hey fellas.

good news and bad news.

first, the bad. i talked to Mike Laskey today(which was cool, great guy). but i was calling him to see if i could order a set of the flat-faced valves for my motor which were listed at Laskeyracing.com. well, they're discontinued. pisser. i suppose maybe i'll just go with OEM. unless if someone is aware of another company which makes 'em for the b18a.

the good. got my p30's connected to my rods. pretty happy about that. and ordered my new ACL bearings saturday. should arrive at the house wednesday.

pics.

rods ready to be heated up.

together.

as usual, leave feedback if you wanna.

thanks for looking.

try Supertech performance for the valves. Is the head being ported and polished? I would go with crower 404 with that build. Looks like a good build get some dyno graphs when your done.

tried supertech. they have a bunch of different b18a valves, but nothing that isn't dished.

nah, no port and polish, just a valve job.

haha, as for the 403 vs 404 issue, read through the first page.

Im thinking about building my b18a, friends say ls vtec, I say I just want a fun DD/Sunday Auto X car that won't cost me an arm to build reliably. So in that case I'll be watching this build from now on : )

well. i'm certainly not discouraging your build. but this was a fairly pricey project.(over 1500 so far, and i'm doing all the machine work myself and my dad got my my rebuild kit for my birthday). and i know it'll be over 2k by the time i'm done. just letting you know, straight up.

glad to see your taking your time and doing it right did you go with o/s pistons or standard since the cylinders were in spec?
also i always wondered if when you heat up the rods and they get discolored does it weaken them?

thanks for the kind words.

the pistsons are .25mm oversized(about .010"). i've heard that its good engine building practice to go a little oversized so you have room to rehone the cyl. walls, so i did.

i asked my instructor that same question about heating the rods and he said it doesn't weaken them. and now that i think about it, i guess it makes sense. the blue-ing that you can see on the rods in the one picture actually looks very similar to what some steels look like after they've been heat-treated. don't think its the same, but thats how i'm justifying it to myself.

its just a Stage 1. the teg. may be a daily driver for a while, so i wanted something comfortable yet better than stock.

specs:
Number of Discs SINGLE
Clamp Load (Lbs) 1560
Disc Outer Diameter 220
Spline Teeth / Major Diameter 24T / 26

last night i picked up a ITR header, and a mishimoto alum. radiator and those should both be in next week.

thanks.

I had that same clutch on my mildly built oem parts b18c, and it held up fine over many days at the strip + abuse on the street. I think it will be good to go with your set-up.

Keep us updated

yea, i saw alot of guys boosting their ls motors and the non-conformist in me just had to go all motor.

still unable to get in the shop to hone the block, but i am home for spring break so, i finally got to take a look at my "ITR header". its a reproduction i picked up from streetimports.com. i saw the price - $199, and i did some searching around on h-t but no one had any actual experience with it. i figured for the price, i'd give 'er a try and see if i got a bargain. so i guess i'm the guinea pig for this header. we'll see how it goes.

overall, i'm pretty happy with the quality, though its not perfect by any means.
anyhow. pics.

as you can see, the outside of each tube is only tacked on a few places which makes me a little nervous.

inside is sealed all the way around, though. thank God.

and the money-shot.

input's always welcome.

hey, nice build.. im still finding parts to complete my n/a b18b. I have a question for you... what injectors are you going to use? Im doing a build like you excepet im using crower 404's and was planning on using p30 pistons but when I got it in the mail it had small scratches on the skirt so I decided not to use them and orderd a kit with Wiseco pistons and eagle H beam rods for $750 shipped. Now all i need to buy is injectors and i can start building.

i'm going to use stock sized injectors. as, for you. what compression are those wiseco pistons going to give you? and you're using 404's. it'd probably be a good idea to step it up a little bit. i'll tell you what i did; i talked to a gentleman from phearable, and he said that i'd probably be good with stock since my build's probably only going to net around 190hp. if those wiseco's are going to bump your compression up more than ~11.6:1 with those 404's, bigger i think would be better for you. talk to phearable though. they know their stuff. good luck, and i hope this helped.
