Nice comparison
I doubt that guy will ever be sold because, who would build a 2.5" exhaust then build another 3"? The person that just did a ton more mods. Either way lets say you didn't have a good comparison because say you have a much more effecient CAT now or the Vibrant has much less restriction. Who really cares. I mean if the 3" dosen't hurt it then all it does is add options for the future(turbo?)

I'm interested because it sounds like its pretty quiet. Would you mind saying the length of your resonator, and maybe the dimensions of your Vibrant?

Also it looks like I'll be getting a cold air intake sometime.

I do believe i have an 18" resonator and the vibrant itself is a 3" in and 3" out but the dimensions i do not know. You can go to the performance section of our sponsors and find the information there. I have the Single Tip Muffler

And you say that you can't hear it at highway speeds? Only the intake? Or was that someone else?

Amen to that.

Most don't realize back pressure builds as rpms increase. This increases engine pumping losses. For your exhaust, you want the lowest back pressure possible over the entire rpm range to recover those losses.

its much much quieter at highway speeds then my skunk2. When you get on it you hear more intake then exhaust but i had a buddy of mine drive it so i could listen, and it sounded great to me.

Some more ammo to support the "bigger is better" theory in regards to exhaust;
IME (in my experience) 2.5 has proven to inhibit flow on my 1.8 LSV as well. So I would buy a 3" on anything 1.8 or bigger

here is the foundation for my statement, on my setup... analyze against yours accordingly. This may or may not help you.

this is toda header uncorked vs. 2.5" exhaust and straight pipe. Same motor, same dyno, same tuner
Blue line is 2.5" exhaust system w/ 2.5" test pipe
Yellow line is open header
Green line is 2.25 exhaust w/ 2.5 Catalytic

Notice how the power is quite even until 7k, then it falls off.

I'll add that I just built my 2.5" exhaust, but I wish I had gone to 3"

I got back on the dyno today and final numbers were 187.5/148.8 for torque, so tuned, it was a 12whp and 7lb-ft of torque difference from start to finish.

Default this was the only way I could subscribe to this tread...

people will still say 3" is way too big, just like the H22 is way too heavy

I'd like to hear that exhaust setup. I'm curious to hear what your interpretation of "quiet" is

BTW - What was the A/F ratio? and what should it be at for a basic I/H/E H22 motor?

yeah, too loud for street IMO. I don't like it when people stare. I'm going to assume no cat, what about res (lenght)?

Nice..

I'm using 3inch KTeller piping with 3inch vibrant muffler and 2 SMSP resonators. Think they are 12 inch each.. No cat.. See what happens..
