It is obvious that the dealers know about it. I am sure Honda doesn't want to make it public yet until they are sure they can handle the vehicles that will be coming in. There are only a few of us on the boards compared to how many have the cars that don't visit these boards. They would be pretty overwhelmed and it will cost them a lot if they don't have the right fix for all the vehicles either.

I have been talking with a guy in my state CT that is getting his transmission worked on for this specific problem. When I take my car in I plan on have the service departments number for where he is getting his work done to give them in case they give me a hard time.

Hopefully the Greenwich Honda Svc. Dept. will cooperate. Today I made an appointment for them to take a look at it for the 14th of this month.

Only in cold weather.....but once the car warms up it's fine for the most part.
mine is exactly the same way, when she's cold the tranny feels notchy and hard to shift, but after she warm up a lil the tranny shifts pretty good. If my problem is still there after about 10k-15k miles then ill switch to the newer style honda mtf. Im still not a big fan of cable shift linkage though, the shifter in my gsr feels sooo much more solid

I purchased my 07' Si w/~9k miles on it about a month ago. After driving it around a bit, daily commute @ 50mi. each way, I found that once and a while I would have a hard time getting the trans into 3rd. It felt like it would go half way in. In the beginning I didn't realize it wasn't all the way in and it would grind. Now that it's a bit more regular to me, I can catch it. Sometimes it takes a few pushes to get it to finally go in. PITA. I'm glad some others have this problem(well, not glad that people have problems) so I know it's not just me, or my car. I appreciate the info on the situation. Keep any new findings coming!
If I can get this problem and the rev hang issue taken care of, the car would be perfect.

I've said it in at least 4 different threads: syncromesh and forget it. First hand experience.

If the gear(s) are still grinding then god help you.

Actually, just spoke w/ my local dealer svc. dept., told him of the problem and asked if flushing the fluid and putting the new fluid in would help, his response was probably not . I was told that I should bring it by to have them check it out and have the problem documented. Too bad I have no other car at the moment, or I'd drop it by today. I may drop the fluid anyway, if just to see if there is any large amt. of metal there. Love the smell of gear lube.

Alright I can't tell you how many times I have said this. Most Honda Heads around here will know... ALL Kseries 6spd Trannies have this issue. NOT JUST THE SI. My RSX has it, My 06 Si had it... Its a design flaw. Honda has been hearing shit for this issue since 2002 and has not fixed it... IF they were to release a bulletin for this it would make a LOT of people happy, BUT... you're talking well over 100,000 cars that would need the fix... thats big bucks honda doesnt want to lose....

just my .02

Completely agree with this. There are too many cars affected that Honda will not like to lose money trying to fix all of them. I've had this issue on my Si since the first week i bought my car. That was 2 years ago and I know have 50,000mi on mine. I've argued with my dealership that there is a problem but they too "can't replicate." It was a battle just to get the intial reflash a year ago. I will have to try yet again to see if they will help out with getting the tranny fluid changed, it's more of a fact that i'll pay for it but i just don't want to since the gear issue isn't my fault. Just to add, mine does grind or pop out but it seems to be when i don't have time to let the car warm up fully and i still baby the damn gear box.

Well this week i will be gettin a fully rebuilt tranny and new clutch put in my civic. Our (the one i work for) dealership has seen several civics come in with this problem, they are gonna do mine as a "test fix" and see if it does infact solve the problem. Than those who come in for the problem will prolly get the same thing i got (if not fully rebuilt than the fork for 3-4 replaced) My svc advisor decided to do the clutch at the same time for the hell of it. (Perks of being a service advisor...i just cant wrtie up my own car) I will keep everyone posted once its done if its any better.

Ive tried the new fluid and RP trans fluid and it goes away for a bit...than comes back. So i dont think its as easy as fluid exchange.

I am not sure if this thread is still ongoing, but I wanted to note the link below has a direct honda service bulletin that addresses the issue with third gear. Good Luck!
I have not gotten this fixed on my car yet but I called to see how far out the parts would be. The dealership said they could get the parts in 1-2 days but could possibly need the car for up to a week to resolve the issue.
