Default Ever have domelight problems? Turns on while driving. Here's the solution /w pics!

so my domelight once again started giving me problems. or should i say it was my door switch giving me problems...

basically the light turns on while driving. perhaps dimly. or stays on after even closing the door, which could drain the battery.

well, the solution is easy. just take off the door switch inside the B pillar door jam. just takes a phillips head screw driver. and clean the contact area.

youll see how it normally keeps the switch open when the door is closed, and grounds itself at the contact tab when the door is open. that contact area usually gets corroded which makes for a poor connection and just needs to be scraped off. thats it.

do it on both sides.
enjoy.

Why not just leave the dome light switch off until you need it.

Some people like everything to work well in their car.

I for one am with you, but you know, creature comforts and all.

I know but its one of those 3 way switches.....i don't like having the light come on when i open the door so i set the switch to off rather than in the middle....
But good job on the fix...those pins did get me when i installed my alarm. My doors wouldn't trigger so i had to take em out and lube em up!

But good job man

I recently replaced them but the picture is exactly where they failed.

It is very important that the switch work properly because if the door doesn't close/switch work , the seatbelt continues to draw current from the battery, eventually killing the battery. ( obviously, this is for door mounted seatbelt models)

great write up even simpler fix, but i went to check this in my car and it was making contect but what had happened was the driver side spring in the clip broke and the passenger side had just lost its springy-ness. so what i had di was pop off the spring from the back and replaced both springs with springs from a clicky pen all you have to doit put it in the same way you took it out. now it pops back itnto place even better then before. easy fix

So I guess you go to a hardware store and pick up extra clicky things. Shew this is just one big circle!

But seriously, Tyson thanks for posting this. My crx did this to me last night....I was wondering what was wrong.
I kept getting out of the car and reshuting all the doors/hatch.

For some reason when i open my rear doors the dome light is brighter then when i open my front doors. I wonder if this would fix that.

Shall give it a go, thanks for the handy info.

yup, cleaner contacts will allow more current to the light bulb.

i guess i forgot to mention my interior lights got a lot brighter after cleaning the contacts. the passenger side door actually didnt even work since ive owned the CRX (3 years) until i just cleaned them.... i didnt care as much since it was just the passenger side. but i guess my passengers would have appreciated it...

Hey guys, the same thing happened to my 90 hatch.....The dealer replaced the faulty seat belts, but would not tell me about the electric door latch sensor, I had to search Honda Tech to find out.....no more battery drain, or "parasitic draw" as it is sometimes called.......good luck.......
