Default Leak in trunk from seam- and troubles from dealership

EDIT- i editted the title to reflect whats happened.
Bought '05 VP civic back in summer '05... only 7 MILES on car!

$1400.00 for the Preffered "BUMPER TO BUMPER 100,000 mile coverage"
Rolled into the loan- HONDA FINANCING! 2%!!!

it is still COMPLETELY STOCK (wifeys car) ...just went over 61,000 miles.
never had it in for any other repairs, but water kept getting into trunk.

i took it where we bought it (Walser Honda- pretty well known around here) they looked at it.

"YEP, it's leaking from a plate under the car, never seen that before, NOT COVERED!
That'll be $266(???) and we'll have it sealed and ready by tommorow!"

*No i purchased the bumper to bumper warranty! For over $1400!*

"SORRY, they haven't paid on any claims! The company went out of business, Chapter 13 Bankruptcy,
will that be cash or charge!"

who else is this happeneing to? or am i the only one, like always!

ok, i did have one mod on it- rims, that's it...

(cant wait to start modding that beast... but i have my Si to mod for now!)

well damn I just fix the water getting inot my trunk with a $3 can of rubberized...get this...undercoating.

Course...my whole car is carpetless....

idk bro...all I can say is...good luck...because I mean...I do all my work as cheaply and practically as possible...

use your imagination. throw some undercoating up under the trunk. that might help...

You should contact Honda regarding that and have them transfer your warranty and cover the cost of this repair.

ask for a refund of whats left of the 1400 dollars. You will probably get about 39% of it back since youve driven it 61k miles out of 100k.

OK. Done deal... i told them i'd fix it myself

i went to pick it up, they said $128 for the charge
(standard "screw you to look at it" fee)
so i demanded they show me where the problem was...

There is a 1/2 INCH GAP between the seams along the trunk-
just under where the bumper is. wife has the car, or i'd post pics.

OH well, Time to invest in a $5 can of Sealant!
as far as the warranty,
we called the company (ADVANTAGE), and they said they are not out of business... wtf???
but there are Thousands of AFTERMARKET Warranty companies out there- and some others are in bankruptcy?

...But still, ours only covers mechanical and electrical things... from "BUMPER TO BUMPER"
engine- tranny, etc...
-seams, rust, and water leaks are not covered under our plan-
Whatever!
we'll keep the extended, just in case of tranny or eng. trouble!

Thanks for all the help guys!

So are you missing seam sealer or undercoating? I wouldn't repair those both the same way.

nope. the seams don't even meet!
there is about a half inch gap along the trunk where the bottom of the frame is just after the spare tire area.
it looks like it probably wasn't welded at all in about a 2 foot spot.

undercarriage___|||____|<Bumper
........................../\
right about THERE.| is what it looks like from sidecut veiw

water shoots up into that seam, it rusted an entire set of honda lug nuts for the winter stock tires...
(Lugs were $94 from the parts dept... grrr...)

i figure i can foam-seal it good enough-
the only way water can get up in there is if she drove fast threw deep puddles.
which doesn't happen a lot! (I HOPE.. Women, Grrrr... )

God Bless! -Wear your seatbelts!

wait, you paid that much for lug nuts?!? it's so funny how IDENTICAL honda lugs are different prices all over majestichonda. there are ones for the rsx for like 2.00 and some change, then ones off an 89 crx si for .89 that are the same nut. but still, that's some expensive stock lugs.

Dude, there is a Honda TSB out on that problem. The dealer has to fix the problem for free.

Go to the dealer and have them search for a 'trunk leak' TSB. It's there, trust me. My local dealer printer it up for me.

Don't do *anything* until you do this. Search the archives as we've talked about this before.

Edit: First link in google. Searching is a beautiful thing.

No, a TSB has to be fixed, no matter what the warranty status or mileage.

TSB #060105 -- INTERIOR WATER LEAK (DASH OR TRUNK AREAS). *JB (NHTSA ID #10018188, JUNE 16 2005) Go to the dealer and have them print it out. They are dicking you around and you seem to be pretty ok about it. I don't know what kind of dealership you're dealing with, but you need to go in their and tell them to fix it free of charge and do not leave untill they do.

the "UGLY" rims were a bargain. i didn't like the stock 14inch dunlops (but they worked ok for winter tires)
those 17" even look small on it. i should have went taller sidewalls!

wow! Great advice, Thanks Guys!

i had just looked at it this morning, and gave up on the warranty thing last week...
so i was going to buy sealer, but, we had a full day- nefews b-day party!
+250 miles today! = 30K miles/year (what we average),
32mpg ...that's why we buy Honda Civics!
(i did get to give the hood a claybar-and polish while waiting for her to pack it up!)

Glad i checked back also
(i wonder how many OP's never get the right answers and forget about HT!)

Well, I'm going into that dealership and giving them a peice of my mind,
and they can refund my $128 "Look at it Charge!"-idiots!

Thanks again, God Bless!

They will look better with a little lowering
...i'll be slamming it!

right after the "non-covering" warranty is up!

--------
we called the Service Dept, found receipts and crap, but because we didn't do the reg. sched. maintanence with them, they wouldn't cover anything...

i called Advantage, they said if we dropped our coverage now, we'd be getting about $100 back, because it we've had the car for 32 of the 36 months coverage...
but she said she had problems with that EXACT DEALERSHIP in the past! (F'ers!)

hmmm... $100 left of coverage... screwed again!
moral of this part- never buy the extended warranty!

called the general manager of the dealership
, explained our probs...
he talk to me for 45 minutes, and explained warranties to me again... what-ever!

i asked if i could just get it fixed... and get the oil changes for life? ... if i do all my work there for-ever
(i'm a very loyal Honda nut-have been for 20+Years!- this is my 8th Honda Civic! i love them!) etc.. etc..
...he was heading to a meeting, "i'll call you back!"

Apparently the meeting was all the Big Wigs, (luckilly this was FRESH IN HIS MIND!)
because about an hour later the HEAD manager of the "Parts and Service" called

He asked what i needed, and he said "Start from the beginning!" ...ok?
again, i went thru everything- 25 minutes later he said,

"I was told By the New Owners (Sherri and Bob?) to do whatever it takes to make you Happy, and i'll talk to the guys and see how soon we can have this in!"
me- Great! Thanks for helping us out!

"..Yeah, Sorry about the problems, i've been with (Sherri and Bob?) for 12 years- they are good people ...we INHERITTED the Service guys when we took over a few months ago... ...We recognize we have problems and are trying to correct them."

ok, so i'm cool with the new owners? (...i guess)

whatever... i just have to watch out for the service dept idiots! GREAT!

i'm ready to switch dealerships all together! F Them! Fix Your Service Dept!

but i'll keep you guys updated on the fix!

AGAIN, thanks for all the help!
