so my srs light came on today in my 04 civic lx. if the light comes on, that means something is wrong right?
so should i check to see whats up, or just reset it? everything is stock, except suspension and a sub (stock deck, sub hooked up to rear speaker). |

if you didn't install anything under the seats or remove the seats w/key in ignition then just go the dealers. they will fix it for free.

dealer only fix for free if its because of the seat belt. bc seat belts have lifetime warranty.

yes, its the same. next time, disconnect your battery before unplugging your seats. i installed rsx seats just fine with no SRS light.

My Light Came on today, first time ever, I just used the speaker wire trick, and the light stays off now, just went out for a hour drive and the light ever came on, not sure what caused the light to come on in the first place but its off now.
great DIY

to add to this, my mom took my car in for the airbag recall a week or so ago and I dont remember what the tech said, but the srs light MIGHT have had something to do with that. My mom had to take the car back a second time for them to take care of it, so i imagine it wasnt as simple as just turning the light off, but it was fixed free of charge

I made my own SCS service connector, also known as "SCS short connector." See http://sites.google.com/site/hondalioness/srs

After having done this to may car before, trying to see the indicator lamp, and pulling the SCS connector from the harness, while being stuck under the steering wheel, I like your idea of being able to comfortably see the lamp while toggling on and off instead of pulling the connector apart.

^^ Exactly. I read other reports on this and the warning from the manual that a paper clip is a bad idea because of all the juggling needed in a tight timeframe. I did not think I would be better off with the OEM tool either. Plus I figured I might be needing the tool a lot. So I built the little device above. I am working on a 2003 Civic LX which came to me with the SRS indicator light on but no other signs of an accident or airbag deployment. I messed up resetting the first time because I was trying to read the directions simultaneously. This works poorly given the 4-second windows. The second try I just toggled the switch whenever the SRS indicator light changed from off to on or vice versa, knowing to stop toggling once the light blinked twice. Resetting was a success. After driving ten miles, it has not come on again, so I am hopeful all is well with the SRS system.

You two have stubby arms or something? I have absolutely no problem holding/viewing the plug while I'm sitting in the driver's seat. Using the SRS connector from this position is extremely easy. You hold the MES plug in your right hand, the SRS connector in your left, slide it on and off while you're watching your SRS indicator on the cluster. Pretty simple.
The speaker wire is a good alternative for most people. You can choose the length, and it's only a matter of connecting/disconnecting bare wire ends. Pretty simple. This method doesn't require a toggle switch, a multimeter, the knowledge of how to use a multimeter, or a trip to salvage wires and pins. I imagine that the paperclip method wouldn't be much harder than using the SRS. If someone has a hard time holding the paperclip without it moving around, or the prongs becoming misaligned due to their grip; you could tape the paperclip to something. Maybe the end of a popsicle stick? The idea is to have the paperclip on some sort of foundation in order to reduce (or eliminate) flex in the paperclip. And to also give the person using it a better handle on the situation. IMO: The toggle switch idea is kinda neat. However, it may be a bit more effort than it's worth for the occasional DIY'er. I think it would be best utilized in a shop-type environment where it would be used on a more regular basis. If someone's having to reset their SRS light so often that it becomes bothersome... maybe they should fix their car! ![]() I like to tinker, though. I may do this just for schitzengiggles.

You were supposed to disconnect your battery, before you unplugged your seats.
I don't see what the problem is. The DIY has clear, step-by-step instructions. Other people can seem to figure it out.

So my light came back on, it was off for about 3-4 since i did the reset, so i took it to a garage, they read the code, its the seat belt buckle itself thats causing the light, anyway Honda wont cover it under warrenty, and they want $230 for the part itself, i got a used one for $50 and i'll install it myself and reset the code myself.
I cant believe such a common problem exists and they wont do anything for you.
