Default Toyota MR2.. Vtec ?

My friend has a Turbocharged '00 Toyota MR2 Spyder, and recently during an autocross event... the engine blew. Many different ideas popped up and one was.. either a K20 or K24 swap into the MR2. The vehicle as of now is 2100lbs. and with the k series plus boost we think the car would be awesome. here's some pictures of the car. ill try to keep you all updated on the project. TRD+Vtec=mwhahah !

as stated about ^^^ it is kind of like a lotus elise, in which people pull out the lotus-tuned toyota engine in favor for a k series. this car is also mid-engined and of course i would assume both swaps are expensive considering that k series aren't cheap, plus with drivetrain, mounts, shifter assembly, radiator/cooling lines, exhaust fab, wiring, and who knows what else...this thing is definitely gonna be expensive.

i would say go for it...just the thought of 2100 lbs, k series power, and rear-wheel drive makes me warm and fuzzy in my pants

Much easier then putting an FR engine in an MR car. Atleast with FWD the engine is facing the same way.

It already has a fwd based engine in it. Don't think too hard.

He doesn't need a K20 Look for the celica 2zz engine out of the Celica GT-S with VVTL-i it goes in there. Has pistons and rods can be sleeved etc....

This is really cool! But wouldn't this be better suited in the hybrid forum? I think a K series engine in this would be the shiznit, also there is huge aftermarket following that all are aware of. I would think that the engine from the Celica GTS with a bored and stroked block would be good too. If i'm not mistaken it too shares a similar variable valve timing system with the K series.

It has a very similar system like I-vtec its called VVTL-i. I dont see a point in using the K-series engine.

its a superior motor. theres a reason why lotus tuners ditch the toyota engine in favor for hondas k20

It is not a superior motor. There's good sides and bad sides but nothing makes it superior.
