I have used 1/4" before on a t3/t4. I'm doing a pair of GT42s now and I'm gonna use something a little bigger but havent decided exactly what yet. Maybe one big one with a hanger...

i dont think I have any...it was for a d16 topmount, I just made a steel arm that came off the PS lugs and one motor mount stud. The turbo hung off a 1" long arm with 1/4" heims on it.

Here is mine, it is 1/4" as well. Not the best (I could probably use another mount/hanging point from up higher as well) but we'll see how it works out.

I try to mount it on teh turbine housing... not the compressor housing. I typically use 3 bolt holes and not just 2...

just my .02

Honestly if you have issues with rigidity between the compressor housing and turine housing, you really need to get your porous taiwan knock-off CHRA looked at...

Hmmm

Support the manifold by supporting the aluminum part of the turbo or the 100lb cast iron exhaust housing HMM.. I think this is why he said he prefers to mount at the exhaust housing

I think he prefers the turbine side as it will be closer to the center of gravity. Try to pick a big turbo up by the compressor housing and keep it level.

If the heim was turned 90 degrees it would work better, if that is in fact a Honda engine.

the turbo is supported on the exhaust side by the manifold and nothing on the compressor side, so doing it to the aluminum would then support the turbo on both sides it seems.

The weight of the turbo is still on the manifold side, not the aluminum side. Supporting the aluminum side will help a lot, but is not perfect in my opinion.

so whats the goal with it? have it to where its barely putting weight onto the manifold (aka the heim holds the turbo and you just throw in the bolts to seal it up)??

if so, it would be better on the exhaust housing, if thats the point of the heim setup

I've got another heim joint on the downpipe about 4 inches off of the turbine housing. Yes I do see how it would be better designed with one on the center......I am just using these mainly as cheap insurance though. For what it is I think/hope it'll work out ok. It is the first whole setup I've made for the car.

The PR4 stamping is in plain view in the picture...

and the heim can move more than enough in every direction, this isnt a control arm.

Are there really so many problems with cracked topmount manifolds that these heim joints are needed?

Also when the manifolds come from good companies?

I´m just interested...
