Lam: on your website you talk about the green outline. This is the section you had to cut away from the roof skin. Is it just the seam sealer that bonds that area to the roof? Or you talking about it's welded? I'm doing this on my sedan so this is basicly the same. last night i started preping my new roof. Also you said it could be possible to use rivits.

I'd have reservations on saying that rivets would be a good method.
If it is possible to do, (I'll get into that) then you should count on using steel (or even stainless steel) rivets, not aluminum ones. You will have to have to have a strong arm to "pull" all the rivets, due to steel ones being a lot stronger. I'd question if the head of the rivet gun would fit in the groove that goes along the side of the car (covered by the rubber trim pice). You wouldn't want to put the rivets in facing upward as that would prevent the installation of the rubber trim piece. Do some research on "cleco's". These are clamps that are installed in holes drilled for rivets to hold the items together while drilling the other holes. You install the cleco's as you drill the holes, then remove them when installing the rivet. I think the addition of a slow setting structural adhesive between the panels should be used. Drill the holes while using cleco's, remove the panel, put down the adhesive, and then put in the steel rivets before the adhesive sets. Wes |

My ???? is would it be easier to just remove the sun roof and make a cap, weld it is and make a support beam under it? I know I would have to use a little filler but.
I am just asking because I want to do something like this but not real able to take the whole roof off, well at least I never have. Maybe not confident enough. |

The amount of working creating the roof "peak" (it's not a flat area) would make it more difficult!!!
The only thing about doing the roof skin swap that most people don't think about is the cost (and work) involved with removing and replacing the windshield and also all the interior parts that have to be removed. The actual removal and replacement of the metal isn't that hard (just time consuming for me). Wes |

Has anyone removed all of the sunroof components and simply latched the panel on, making it removable? Or removed the motor and cables, etc and making it manual?
Both I think, are interesting options, more weight could be saved with a cf panel. -Chris

yeah i wish i done rivets or a similar method. like wes pointed out, the problem is getting the rivet gun into the tight hole under the trim. i was researching for a narrow head rivet gun in the market. but didnt come up with any luck. |
