*Update - Round 1*

As soon as the car was at my house I began to remove parts for their protection. I'm sure I do not have to mention how personally valuable the Original Badge Number and Cluster are, as well as the front and rear seats. On the outside I have removed the headlights, CF hood, the wing for Dave_B, and swapped the tails for cheap 94-97 replacements.

More Bad:

At one point in time a the widow wing was removed and a ricer table top was put into place. Sadly these mean more holes, but also holes that have been stressed. When removing the wing for
Dave_B I found this:

Did you notice this crack?

There is a 6 inch crack in the sheetmetal in the hatch. Hence why I had weird surface rust in the hatch area. I was already worried about the holes, but I am now thinking it would be best to source another hatch. I have 8 holes in a hatch that should have 2, and a crack in the sheet. I really wasn't thrilled to find this

There are also several areas showing rust:

There is a huge chip/crack in the rear quarter where a large area of paint and sealer has cracked off revealing bare metal. I have taped it to prevent rust from forming while

Rear fender wells

Rear bumper

As well as inside rear hatch liner from the crack in the rear hatch.

I am researching ways to tackle these but if you have advice and or suggestions please feel free to chime in.

Thanks for reading!

I would definitely buy a new hatch, depending on what your plans are, maybe a carbon fiber hatch?

Def not worth shipping since ATL is only 6 hours from me. I'll pick it up on a day off for gas + M.Dew.

If he wants it.

that is kool to help him out, the rest isn't that bad.........looks like Northern or Fla. salt water car/beach car.

Just get the rust down to metal, then use anti-rust paint (5.00) and call it a day. Once the bumpers are on you will not notice it, so why spend money at a pro shop. Good luck with the rebuild....

Please, this sounds good. I have access to a truck since my brother will be in Scotland until January. I will shoot you a PM and we can talk.

I appreciate your offer, but I'm only 3hrs from ATL. Unless you want to roadtrip with me? And of course I'l supply the Mountain Dew

No sir, the rust is only surface and isn't deep on the fenders and inner hatch area. As others have stated, the bumper rust is fairly common and since it will be covered is not as much as an issue.

Shame on Honda for these rusty bumpers
I recently removed, sandblasted, and rubberized mine.
GL on all the work. It'll be all worth it in the end
