Thanks! I took the rockers out on cyl # 1 and then used to tiny little washers behind the vtec pins in the rockers to space them over and lock them together. I thought about using air pressure but yeah I could see that just blowing oil all over the place haha. I just slid the rocker shafts out toward the passenger side by removing the plug behind the dizzy and the vtec solenoid and removed the rockers and reinstalled them. The only bad thing is now I have to take it all back apart again to take the washers out.

Ya, that's basically what I do too. It's kind of a pain to take half the head apart two or three times just to check something like lift or coil bind, especially with the engine in the car and having to mess with the timing belt, etc. I was hoping you had a trick!

Oh, and for comparison's sake I recently measured a set of JDM Type S cams with the VTEC pins locked: 0.430" exhaust and 0.468" intake, at the valve with 0.006" and 0.007" lash.

On nice, those are a bit bigger than I thought!

I got everything buttoned up last night, just gonna look everything over tonight and maybe put on a few miles and get the oil changed. Dyno tomorrow!

Yup, peak hp was 241. I overlayed the graph I had from a year and a half ago (pro2 cams, camp1320 header) and it was just about line for line except the pro3's and SSR header carried the power another 500 rpm. I expected more of a difference being that the design of the two headers are completely different, but suprisingly there wasnt much. I also did some open header pulls which were only good for a few ponies more, so at least I know my exhaust isnt too restrictive.

I tested my new manifold as well, for those who don't know its a dual throttle body setup (60mm each). The lower plenum has been machined out, then I built a billet plenum and billet twin bore throttle body to go on top. I plan to do some more testing on it with another plenum and a spacer or two. The manifold made huge torque gains down low, up to 20lb-ft in some places. I was pretty happy to say the least, but peak torque occured at 4600 so I want to do some more testing to raise that up a bit further in the power band since this is a drag motor. Peak hp also died off a little sooner at 8200, rather than 8500 with the Euro-R.

I got a few passes in at the track this weekend as well, with a little more testing 12's should be easy.

I'll have pics and graphs up later of everything, I've just been waay too busy to get on here.

maybe i shouldnt dissmiss my camp1320 header after all
i was thinking about selling it...... but im still thinking
im going to do a comparassion of it against a hy-tech replica

nice job

Heres the graph, this is my Euro-R with 70mm throttle body vs my modified stock manifold with a billet plenum and 60mm top mounted twin bore throttle body. Overall peak hp was roughly the same, but the dual tb setup killed the Euro-R in the low end. I plan to do more testing with this manifold to see if I can move some of that torque a bit further up. I will make a shorter plenum as well as a spacer and test and tune each one individually and compare the powerbands then go from there.

Euro-R = 240.5hp @8300, Peak torque 163.5 lb-ft @7500
Dual TB = 241.2hp @8200, Peak torque 172.1 lb-ft @4600

Heres a few shots of the new manifold...

you are the effin man.
I think you need to shorten the runners on the stock manifold, cut about 1 inch off imo.
also maybe you need more plenum volume. either way the craftmanship is off the charts!

damn that low end is nuts buddy! As always, nice stuff shawn. You said you got to make some runs at the track. You dont have to say the ET, but what was your trap? And what setup did you use at the track?

Shawn, if you decide to sell the prototype, let me know. That power band should work fine for me.

Nice stuff! I like the alternator bracket too, did you make that? What does the stock part of that manifold look like inside? Did you cut out most of the dividers between the short and long runners? It's neat to see threads like this one, thanks!

Thanks, yeah we will see, I will add a spacer to the current plenum and see what giving it more volume does, I have a feeling the plenum doesnt really act like a plenum with this kind of setup though. The lower part has had the dividers machined out and the webs that are left have been machined a bit lower as well, making the runner shorter and giving the plenum more volume. Based on the calculations Matt, Blake and I did long ago this should have more volume over a stock manifold, but we will see what even more does. It all unbolts and seals with o-ring gaskets so it should be pretty easy and fast to switch out on the dyno.

I raced the dual tb at the track. I think it would really benefit from a hood scoop of some sort, I'm just not ready to cut up my carbon hood yet lol. The top of the tb sits about 3 inches below the bottom of the hood so you know its just sucking in hot air out of the engine bay.

In the 1/8th mile it went 86mph, best et was 8.38. On my 13.03 1/4 mile run from a year and a half ago the 1/8th mile et was 8.35 and that was with a much better 60ft. I only got 4 runs in on saturday too, but going back tonight and looking for an 8.20 pass.

Thanks! I made that bracket for the homeade header I preiously ran. I built that header to have the tubes come straighter out of the head before the bend which required me to relocate the alternator bracket. It still works great so I just kept it with the SSR.

I did cut out all the web of material between the front and rear port on each runner, and then I machined a concave surface (best way I can explain it) onto the tops of the dividing webs leftover, essentially lowering the plenum of the manifold and shortening the runner. I'll post a pic later when I'm at home, it will make alot more sense haha. But basically I took the time to measure and model all that up and cnc it out. Then I went back in by hand and blended things smooth. The runners of the manifold were pretty much untouched.
