Im talking about the fact that it's pointed straight down with like 2 inches of clearance. I'm guessing it wouldnt fit the other way?

You do not need to remove the rear bumper. That extra step is just a waste of time. Refer to picture seven* you just need to access the philips screw from underneath the bumper with a long srewdriver, and I would spend the extra time soldering the wires instead of using butt connectors.

I'm lose at howe the original "red, clear, red" became "clear, red" unless I'm seeing an illusion....
EDIT: I guess I got misled by the DIY part of the title.. I see it was a taillight swap. |

i did this install without extending any wires...if you backtrack the wiring harness you can find slack...a little repositioning and cutting the ziptie things that hold the harness back and you are good to go...

well just got in my taillights from albert and they are dope as hell. Unfortunately install on my fit was NOTHING like described and idk if it's only my fit or what the hell....check it (vivid blue pearl model #6141 bought april 27)
taillights are awsome fit pretty well w/ only MINOR gaps that aren't really noticeable. Everything looked clean and nicely built. The only small problem i had was that the hole where the backup bulb goes isn't notched correctly for the usdm bulb holder (the turn signal was tho) so u have to wiggle it on until it holds. I only got 2 of the 3 tabs actually holding but its pretty tight so i'm not worried at all about it falling out. First off, my fit, on the drivers side i had 2 extend the 2 wires cuz there is NO slack at all for the reverse light. I didn't care i extended it cuz it's easier for me 2 cut and solder and rewrap everything. totally looks oem. As for the passenger side, OMFG!! WORST TIME OF MY LIFE! there was no slack AT ALL. i couldnt' get the turn signal 2 reach OR the running light/brake light. I had 2 extend 5 wires on the passenger side to reach. I even took off all the plastic paneling to see where i could gain slack...none at all! (forgot 2 take pix) it was soo tight. So yeah i had 2 extend 3 wires on the running/brake light plug and 2 wires on the turn signal (all of em about 3 inches extra). I never installed the screw on the bottom cuz i didn't find it necessary. I also didn't take off my bumper i just reached under the car w/ a 16" screwdriver and unscrewed that small screw. |

Update:
I received my LED tailights on Friday. I decided that since it was decent out on Saturday, I'd go ahead and do the install. Unfortunately for me, my experiences seem to be like koolkevin's. Fitment of the tail lamps is good. Very minor gaps compared to the OEM ones. NONE of the OE bulb sockets fit into the LED tail lamps. I made the move to modify things For me, I didn't have to extend any wires, though. There was enough play in the wires for me to get them all hooked up. My BIGGEST concern is actually about safety. I pulled my Fit out in my driveway where the sun was; I thought I might take a picture or 2. Well, depending on how you are facing the rear of the car while the sun is shining on it, you can't even tell that they are lit. And I'm sure these things aren't DOT approved since I didn't see it stamped anywhere on them, I have big concerns that these will cause a rear-end collision. So far I'm not pleased that I spent $120.00 on these... |
