Default LS/VTEC question

Well today i got my transmission installed and i really like it , Feels A lot Quicker , Its a Integra XSI J1 tranny , I love the gearing and being on the highway isnt to bad , i was at 4000 rpms at almost 85 mph. Today i also got a really good deal on a JDM ITR head from a friend of mine , i paid 650 for it , it ran really strong when it was in his car and it was only in there maybe 2k miles. NOw that i have the head im going to go LS/VTEC really soon here , so i went to a well known Honda shop around here , and he said he would do it for 850$ , 1050$ if i wanted a breather box i think he said? I told him my motor was fully rebuilt with about 500 miles on it and he said basically for 1000$ he could do the LS/VTEC if i brought the ecu and he would use my stock Pistons, he said he has done many LS/VTEC"s using the LS pistons that now have over 100k miles. Isnt the compression to low though if you use LS pistons? He said using the stock block , the b18c5 head, breather box , and after he tunes it id be looking at 160-175 whp or more. Sound right? He also said using the LS pistons it would be able to rev to 7800 before the power curve falls. Also what ecu should i buy ? its a obd1 92 teg , thanks

You otta throw some jdm ctr pistons or something for a little bit more compression. But on using the LS ones I have no idea

1. Do it yourself and save the $1000.

2. Is the bottom end completely stock? If you want to rev it higher than the 7k rpm LS revlimit, get some ARP rod bolts and I'm assuming you got new bearings with the rebuild so they should be ok.

3. The LS pistons wouldn't have 'too low' of a compression, depending on what you want to do. That'd be a perfect setup if you want to do forced induction later on, but if you want to stay N/A then you could get some Si or CTR pistons for high compression. (check out http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...c.php to calculate your compression with different pistons)

4. You can use your stock ECU, just get it chipped and tuned.

you can use a p-28 or p-72. the p28 pop's v-tec harder. the p-28 is from a single cam and the p-72 is from a GSR.

Haha you're a retard. One ECU won't make your vtec 'pop' any harder than a different ECU. If you're building an LS/vtec, you shouldn't be running a stock ECU anyway so it really doesn't matter what kind of ECU it is as long as it's chippable to be able to tune it. And to the OP, you can convert a non-vtec ECU to vtec and then tune it when you get the engine running.

If your block isn't going to be balanced, then don't rev it past 8000-8500 MAX RPM.

You can rev it to 9000+ rpm, but your motor won't last very long.
