Default 96spec EK's ls/vtec build

I have been collecting parts for some time now. Waiting on the big brown truck is almost over. First of all, all the parts that went to the machine shop are done including the b18b block, crank, rods, and rsmachine 81.75mm pr3's. On with the parts list and couple of pictures to be updated as progress happens.

Shortblock
97' b18b block cleaned, decked, align honed, and cylinders bored/honed
00' ls crank balanced, micropolished and graphite coated
pr4(ls)rods balanced, shotpeened, big ends resized for arp bolts
rsmachine 81.75 pr3 pistons with hastings rings balanced
Z-10 girdle with arp gsr mainstuds
acl bearings
goldeneagle ls/vtec set with 82mm headgasket
gsr arp headstuds
8mm arp rod bolts

Cylinder head
92 sir2 b16 head
skunk2 pro series valvesprings & retainers
skunk2 pro2 cams
skunk2 stock size high compression valves
skunk2 cam gears

Manifold/Throttle Body/Header

i love the in home engine builds. nothing beats assembling your long block in your kitchen build looks real good

whats with the discolouration of the rods??? Is it a result of shotpeening almost seems like the friction from the peening overheated the rod?

that's probably from installing the wrist pins thru the piston into the rod. People heat up the small end of the rod to make it expand and freeze the wrist pin and it slides together much easier without having to press it together.

did use a oxy/acl. torch to heat thoes baby's up or something.

I had the machine shop press the wrist pins on so I couldn't tell you.

oh wow...my setu is really similar to yours just that im going with P30 pistons...man, i wish i knew how to work with motor internals... .. you think building my LSVTEC myself as a first timer is a bad idea or should i just pay someone to do it??got any helpful links on how to work within inside the block and head?

What are you going to use for injectors/fuel pump/ecu ?

I'm going with a pro series skunk 2 manifold and rc 310's. I have a walbro 255hp and p72 w/ hondata s200 running in the car now. I want to sell that setup and go with a s300 and p28.

How much for a hondata basemap for my current setup? I'm running a stock itr basemap now and the limiter is set at 8484rpm
