Looking to get a VW. Not sure which gen. yet, but have my eyes on a mk4, 5, and 3. Either Golfs, Jettas, or GTIs. Just wondering about any issues with these gens? I've read about electrical issues mostly.

Any input on that?

My friends 1.8t MK4 had a ton of electrical issues. I think most of them keep spare coilpacks wherever they go. the lingering check engine light is pretty much a standard also. if i bought a MK4 it would be the r32

I personally went for the MK5 because it is the first gen with a independant rear suspension (although most of the VW crowd likes to slam their cars on the ground making it irrelevant.)

I went for the NA 2.5 motor because it seemed reliable and a good bang for the buck. I also came from NA Hondas so it was pretty natural. Aftermarket is getting there but not quite up to par. We need cam development badly. the stock grinds are pretty economical.

To give you an idea how bare the market is, i just bought one of nine aftermarket intake manifolds in existance. there are about four left for sale and one is from a different company and is their prototype.

late model 2.0Ts seem to be pretty reliable. and the MK5 R32 is a great (mildly overpriced new) car also.

That 2.5 needs to be boosted.

I recognize that screen name too.

My aunt had a mk4 Jetta that caught on fire due to a faulty relay, friend has a 2008 passat that has been in and out of the dealership for two years and he bought it brand new (ignition related everytime), another friend with an mk5 GTI that the check engine light goes off if you sneeze. It's just ridiculous how twitchy the check nothing light is on the mk5s.......

That's the result of someone that doesn't have two brain cells to rub together modifying a car.
