Default LS vtec Question

hey guys iam about to build my lsvtec motor but ran in to a problem of haveing no funds for cams valvespring and retainers. my motor has pr3 b16 head that has a 3 angle valve job. know my question is will i be able to run my motor reliably with stock cams? i know one thing taking it to 9.5 k is probaly not good.

Of course it will be reliable. It's a stock valvetrain. They were put in there to live a long time. Now if you go trying to rev the thing to the freaking moon, no. Stick with stock rev limitations and you will be fine until you can afford to upgrade the valve train.


Did you at least have the LS rods redone with ARP hardware?

Yeah it's not about how far you can rev. It's how far up the revs you can make power. And if your running stock ls rods w/ stock ls rod bolts 9.5k=DEATH

you can use stock valve train but I wouldn't take it any higher than 8,000 to 8,200 RPM's. Also make sure that you are using a V-tec oil pump for sufficiant oil flow other wise you will be hurting your engine and won't be reliable specially when running it hard.

ALL 96+ b series oil pumps are the same. so that statement is moot.
