Any pros and cons people can offer? I'm looking to get either one as my daily driving rubber. I live in the great lakes area, so I'll be expecting rain and heavy snow occassionally.

then i would by the kumho asx... that is what your looking for in what you have written as your explanation as to what you are looking for.... you want a tire with decent traction but what the tire to do good in the snow and rain... the answer to your question is none of the above that you listed.... kumho asx would be a very good choice above the others that you listed.....

How about you guys offer a review on the tires I suggest? They're for DD duties anyways and I need them with the quickness because my current tires are bald and I'm about to put money down on a house.

My Review:

Kumho Ecsta AST - Sucks
Hankook Ventus HRII H405 - Sucks

How much more are the ASXs at the shop you are going with? I wouldn't skimp on the only direct connection with the road if I was you but I understand being on a budget. IIRC the ASX is only around $12 usd more a tire. I would spend the extra $56.47 and get the better tires.

I'm in the same boat. ASX ($360) vs H405 ($330). Are the ASX really that much better? And which would probably last longer?

They aren't just $30 better, I would spend $100 more to stay away from the H405, that tire is an absolute piece of junk. If you are stressing about $30 for a set of tires just remind yourself that they are the ONLY thing actually touching the road.

EDIT: If you are willing to buy cams and everything else that add performance, why not spend a piddly $30 to buy something that will provide a highly noticeable difference in performance, in fact it is probably the best performance for the dollar $30 you can spend.

I agree. Furthermore, if you're spending a lot of money on mods, you're MUCH better off buying a second set of rims (even steelies) for your winter (or all-season) tires in winter, so that you can use a set of summer tires the rest of the year. Even inexpensive summer tires like the Kumho SPT will give you much better performance than all-seasons like the ASX, and you might want to even consider spending a bit more money for something better than the SPT.

definitely taking considerations from all feedback on the tires.

I bought the AST, i had not plan to get these but rather the SPTs, but it was last minute thing since i was trying to work for some discount through freinds. but anyways, it worked out great since i will be ridding these in snow anyways. never had "all-season" tires on my car even though i ride through the snow.

SO far, i really like these tires. very very happy with Kumho's man, never let me down, Cheap and effective and they are sporty looking. They grip decently, it performs ok/good enough not to hate on these tires on the performance scale, if that makes sense. My car is a ek hatch w/jdm itr motor. im happy my pockets happy
