No, it's a silverish gray color. Kind of does look bluish in the pictures though.

So that's what it's worth then, $100.22?; if so, I must have overpaid

Thanks, it actually wasn't all that complicated to restore, just took it all apart, cleaned everything as best I could, had the painted peices repainted, and just put everything back together. Now only if my S600 restoration was that easy

I was a little disapointed with the paint color though. The silver/gray is a little darker than it's supposed to be. It's supposed to match the color on the "Honda Cuby" badge, but as you can see, it's clearly darker. O well, it looks good enough, and I'm sure only a purist will know it's the wrong color. Maybe one of these days I'll repaint it.

dude, you should build a small scale down model of a honda. maybe a old school one and trow that motor in and turn it to a pretty neat lil rc car. using a servo to control throttle and etc. i think that would be so cool - put the motor in used.

That's a good question, I guess it depends on your definition of "released". These Cuby's weren't officially "released" for retail sale. Honda only made about 800 of them, and used most of them in what they called "Tama Tech" in Japan. (which is the Honda fan fun lab in Suzuka Circuitland, people would take them apart and rebuild them, which would teach them about basic engine design).

So the left over units, and possibly even units that were used in this Tama Tech, were then offered for sale to US dealers, which Honda suggested they use as promotional items.

I hear you, if I had the extra cash, I'd buy it to have two. I don't think a thousand will buy this one. I think it's gonna take at least $1500, if not upwards of $2K. The last NOS Cuby went for around $1750 if I recall correctly.

you really got a nice cuby-engine. I visited a friend the other day who has two of them and some extra features. One is an original mounting-plate for the motor and the generator. The other is an english manual.

I hope to have the chance to take some pictures soon because he is not very keen on putting it on the web himself.

I got one question. In the letter you show they mention 800 cubys for 1800 dealers. Does that mean worldwide or for the american market? Do you know how many dealers there had been in the beginning of the 60´s?

Welcome to the forums.

Unfortunatly, I no longer own this Cuby engine. I sold it to build some capital for my S600 restoration.

That's neat that you've got a friend with two Cuby's. They are pretty rare items, and he should consider himself lucky to have them, I wish I had mine back.

I don't have an answer to your question. I can only infer what was said on the letter to mean that 800 Cuby's were to be divied up between 1800 dealers worldwide. In 1962, Honda would have only been in business in the US selling motorcycles since 1959. It's hard to imagine they'd have 1800 US dealers in only 3 years, but I guess anything is possible.

Hi, I am new, but am happy I have found others into the Honda craze. Specifically I collect small engines/motors. Honda Cubys are really cool and very hard to come by and of course not cheap. Smithenhiven is correct on all accounts in regards to the Honda Cubys. My research on the one sold on eBay is in a museum in Japan. Hello , I came across the Honda Tech website while researching info for a Honda Cuby I have. I was given the gas engine in 1994 by a family member that had an interest in gas engines. Don't get me wrong here, but until I read some of the postings here, I didn't even know what I had. Take a look...
