Default 3rd Gear Pop

So last night on my way home in traffic, I got into a situation where I needed lots of speed, quick. I was in 3rd gear and floored it. The engine spun-up quick and at 7,500rpm, I went to shift from 3rd to 4th. I barely touched the stick to shift and the stick just flew out 3rd, hard, almost like a pop. I know it was fully in gear, and it has never popped out of gear driving. I also remember this same thing happening with my 2001 Civic.

Have anyone else noticed this? Is this just something with the linkage design that I don't need to worry about? I have Comptech Short Shifter, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know if it's just Hondas in general, but I have heard a lot of stories of people's 3rd gear popping out. My 05 rsx-s sure did.

Just took my 06 si to the shop today specifically for the 3rd gear slip/pop. They drove it around and said n othing was wrong. they have no idea though. they are dumb. I know something is up with my 3rd gear. It slips out of third while shifting sometimes and just grinds. I get so pissed off. but yeah. i have heard alot about trouble with 3rd gear in the K series motors. I bet soon enough there will be some kind of recall but for now it really bothers me.

yeah theres the same thing that happens with the rsx but in this case on 2nd gear. the way I deal with it is you have to find the gear in the car unlike in my brothers 97 civic where the gear goes in smooth like a hot knife through butter.

ditto here, its like the 3rd gear is a phantom gear sometimes, it feels like the gears in and once i let off the clutch, it pops out.. this is w/ and w/out the short shifter

I have the same problem, told the Honda people is doesn't do it all the time, but on occasion either it won't go in, or it does and the second I let off the clutch it grinds and pops out, they said they would have a tech ride with me, but that was all they could do.
