Default Re: [HOW-TO:] Car Security

Yes! thank you very much for your write-up and website. I came accross it about a month ago and it convinced me to do the same thing for my girlfriend's 2nd Civic (her first one was stolen). It has guided me nearly every step of the way.

The ONLY problem I am now having is that I'm installing a DEI alarm+starter combo and I am trying to figure out how to wire the parking light flash wire. I have a 520t back-up battery and it says that it cannot handle the current of running parking lights. Since the parking light wire is (+), I don't know if I can just hook up to it, or if I have to go through a relay first. There is a jumper on the alarm brain to change the output from (+) to (-). I don't know what I should do...I know you don't like to deal with car starters, so maybe someone else can answer me if you can't.

Thanks again!

Like it was said before, if they really wanted it, they would take it, and that's the sad thing, no matter what you do to your car, if a thief is motivated enough they will get it. not to say that you shouldn't use a club etc, cause that will deter the common thief, but when the professional comes along, its just gonna be one more nuisance.
Sure, if someone really wants your car they CAN get it, not they WILL. You know the more security you have on your car, the longer you stall your local thief, and the longer you stall said thief, it raises his chances of getting caught and going to jail empty handed. Thieves dont want that, they want a quick steal and to get the fck out of there. There are tons of kids out there with B swapped hatches and no security, im sure they'd rather go after those.

Also I've seen pics on this forum of cut steering wheels and cut clutch pedals. What are you doing talking to "several ex-car thieves" anyway?

"If they really want it, they'll steal it" is some pretty sad reasoning IMO. You might want to get some therapy for that victim's mentality.
I have a "tool" for breaking clubs, its called a large bolt cutter, most people do. But I dont think that many thieves will walk around carrying a bolt cutter to cut a clutch lock, club, etc.
Some of you guys WANT to get your car stolen. Im not saying solely rely on clutch locks for security, but LAYER them because you want to try your hardest to deter a thief.
And also, no one ever said those security measures are 100% theft proof, they are DETERRENTS, just like EVERYTHING listed in this thread.

As for talking to EX CAR THIEVES. Thats exactly what I said, EX car thieves. Like they dont do it anymore. They still need to put food on the table so they got a job, and I worked with them at my last job. One was a cute girl about 4'10", you would have never guessed hahaha.

What's the best AM alarm system to install for a 06 civic with manual locks currently?

I am having some trouble with my Clifford alarm. I have an Clifford Intelliguard 750 on my Civic.
Before, when unlocking my car it would CHIRP 1 time & when locking it would CHIRP 2 times. Now, when locking it BEEPS loudly 4 times (but still CHIRPS 1 time when unlocking). I think it has to do with me accidentally entering a code without key in ignition with wiping the interior. The battery in my remotes are fine.
Also, my car alarm randomly sounded while I was inside my home (I kept my car garage kept).
Now, my question is, how do I get my initial chirps back instead of this LOUD beep?
Please help.

Does anyone know if the Relay above^^^ (or if the link is dead, it is basically a Bosch Style Relay) has the 1 amp diode across the 86/85 pins?

Also, having a hard time finding connectors & quick disconnects that are non-insulated, locally. Is it ok to just use insulated?

I dont see it but that doesn't mean its not in the wirring harness. There is also no reason why you could not add one yourself.

Very unusual if you can't find an electronics supply store in your area (not radio shack). But of course you can use insulated connectors. Just don't rely on the insulation as it usually cracks or is pierced by the crimpers unless you can find a good brand.

If there isn't a diode you can always add one to the wires. Just make sure to face it correctly, opposite of direction you usually face a diode. Stripe to positive side.
