just typing from memory about everything I know about the d-series.

it's a attempted copy of the quaife lsd. the axle removal issue that surfaced a while ago has been resolved with a design revision. On the d-series, the unit is thicker than it should be, and to properly shim it, there's not a oem shim thin enough.

The solution is to use a b-series oil control ring as a shim to get the proper clearances

I actually took two OBX LSD's to a machine shop to have the carrier milled down to re-use the OEM shim. They milled down the face of the LSD where the Differentail Bearing would rest (RING GEAR SIDE! otherwise your LSD would sit high in the case and cause other clearance issues!)

Don't remember the spec we shaved but I can always look it up in my papers. It worked out that I could reuse the original shim that was in each tranny case; even though I only measured one LSD/case combo. So I found the exact manufacturer error for the one's I purchased.

Yep. We're all talking about modifying it and re-shimming it because we like wasting our time. It's really a perfect direct fit.

of the 7 OBX's I've installed in D series trannys, the diff has been .5mm-.7mm too wide.

I'm in the process of having shims made @ .030" and .020" thick. If they work out, I should be able to sell a bunch. The tooling costs is what is gonna cost alot!

I've been doing the same, .020"/.5mm ring, but some are a little loose, Plus I'd prefer something a little wider to support the race correctly.

If you goto pop the axle out, ALL force is on the little shim......you can crack the case doing so.

Yes it will fit your si trans. Your original bearings can fit. Or if you want some new ones, you can order k20 differential bearings
