Default Revealed! - Lock to Lock - ITR rack swap to EH3

I just wanted to drop a little info on this subject here since when I was initially considering putting an ITR rack on my EH3, and was not able to find any reliable info here on H-T. It was all "ive heard" and "I think", etc. on the lock to lock ratio comparison US ITR vs EH3 (both w/ PS).

The fact that my rack and pinion was definatley hurting and needed a rebuild coupled with the fact that when I had my car recently painted there was some overspray on the rack and subframe made me decide to pick up this 2001 USDM ITR rack/subframe/sway bar from a buddy of mine.

So the swap was straight forward except the ITR front sway bar endlinks are different than the EH3, so I still need to pick those up. The EH3 lock to lock is about 3.4 turns and the ITR lock to lock is 2.8 turns.

Heres a couple of pics - comparrison of racks.

ITR rack & subframe installed.

EH3 & ITR next to each other - PS lines are different. The ITR rack needs 2 PS lines, and the Civic one needs 3.

Closeup of the ITR rack

Closeup of the EH3 rack

If you have any questions about this swap just hit me up and ill do the best I can to answer.

Isn't this rack the same as a power rack from any 92-95 Civic?

what r u doing that u need it better?

Steering wheel size is what I woulda looked at before I changed out the rack...

If u ever notice drift cars or monster trucks...anything that requires fast turning use small steering wheels (less circumference distance for the same steering distance)..

Just my $.02, but u chose to do the rack, and it looks nice

so gj

1. My original rack was in need of a rebuild (and I didnt mention that one of the internal bolts that the LCA bolts to was broken off, and ive been rigging it for 6+ years) and 2. My original rack had a lot of overspray from my recent paint job.. and lastly 3. I got a real hookup on everything from a buddy whos no longer in the scene.
The shorter lock to lock was just an added bonus, IMO.

always function>fashion, ya know

You say all teg are the same, and yours is 3.25 lock to lock.. well, mine, with a stock steering wheel is exactly what i said above. The civic is 3.4 turns and the ITR was 2.8 (deffinatley less than 3.25). Ill post video if need be.

word up, I hear ya, I wasn't sayin fashion > function tho, I hate aftermarket steering wheels... just sayin, smaller steering wheel is less circumferntial (word?) moving distance lock to lock....

and yea, free rules...only problem is nothing's free...fukin air isn't free

I was just gathering information as gathered onto the site.

BTW. what are you using for the universal joint? The integra one has a bigger spline.

Well I figured it out, you need to use the dc2 universal joint, I updated my post.

You were probably one of the lucky guys that left the joint on the rack and disconnected it from the column.

Sorry didnt reply sooner.. but yes, the couplers are different.. I had my eg coupler, but I had to hunt down a DC2 coupler. I paid $40 for it shipped.

But I will say this..
The EH, the EK, and the DC steering column side of the coupler is all the same. Its the rack side that differs.

Back from the dead but I felt this needed to be brought back. I wanted to hear someone say that. Do you have the video handy? Youtube it! :D I also am doing this swap but converting the DC2-R rack to manual by looping the lines.
