Thanks for the great post. The tubing made the job much easier than using a fluid pump!

i like this guy write up. i will be changing my transmission fluid *correctly* for the first time. i paid a big price for not doing it correctly when i should've study first.

Question: is it ok to jack all four sides? i never heard anyone jack their car up on all 4's to change a tranny fluid.

That oil is way too thick! That's the weight I use for my rear end differential in my Mustang.

thats exactly how i fill the tranny back up, since for some reason my fill bolt is frozen. also, i'm just picky when it comes to the maintence of my engine, i change tranny fluid every time i do a oil change.
Thats a lil excessive lol

It's 2 quarts for the Civic, but I'd like to know too if anyone is using Royal Purple, Amsoil or Mobil 1. I've used the 3 synthetics in all my other cars with good results. Also, I'd like to see more info on how some people say that the Honda owner's manual says to use 10w30 motor oil for the tranny as well as I hear some of the Honda shop technicians using 10w30 motor oil for the tranny? Can anyone back this up please? Honda Techs any truth to this??

haha this thread should be titled Changing transmission Fluid for dummies.

"tighten(turn clockwise)"
"Lift the hood of the car up and secure it so it wont fall down."

Very good write up though.

Heck yea! I thought it would be cool to run a pair of 6.5" Alpine Type-R Coaxial speakers under the hood! Jk, Jk.

That is running to the PA speaker but it is hidden now. When I did that writeup a few years ago, my wiring was a mess. Now everything is done "pro" to where everything is organized and wiring is safe(i had safe wiring...it just looked like a mess)

This was a great writeup, but I noticed that when I opened the "filler" plug. oil came pouring out like crazy. It scared me so much I put the plug back in and decided not to do the change. Why would oil come pouring out of the filler hole like that? Isn't it physically impossible to overfill the gearbox?

The vehicle speed sensor is another hole the can be used to fill the transmission so if this was used, it could have been over filled. You should be fine if you pull it out and do it like this tutorial says. I went by what the honda factory service manual said in this tutorial.\

Also make sure the car is level, not just front to back but level side to side too.

My owners manual says to use 10w 30 for the transmission oil so I did, no problems.. my uncle said he's never seen a transmission use motor oil before.
