this is a quote from your write up
((((I will repeat that. YOU MUST HAVE A DEEP (CLOSE TO -29 PSI) VACUUM FOR YOUR AC TO BLOW COLD. Vacuum lowers the boiling point of liquids, and if it is not low enough, the liquid refrigerant will never evaporate (expand) into a gas, ))))) though you do need to pull a vacuum to - 29" hg not psi, the reason to pull a vacuum is not so the refrigerant can expand into a gas. that is the job of the txv, the txv monitors the superheat in the suction line which opens and closes the txv in the liquid line. when the txv opens the meters a small amount of refrigerant into the evaporator and the liquid refrigerant expands into a gas and REMOVES heat from the evaporator which is warmer because of the return air temp. the only reason to pull a vacuum is to remove any moisture and non-condensables in the system. one part you are correct, the vacuum lowers the boiling point of the liquid but you are removing any moisture in the system. the moisture will boil off into a gas and be removed by the vacuum pump. and its also what you said if its not pulling a deep vac then there is a leak. and there are faster ways to charge a system that is in a vacuum that wont take an hour.. though let the noobs charge by vapor, its easy and they cant really expletive it up. just a few things i saw that you needed to change in your write up, other stuff looks ok. |

you seem knowledgeable in the ways of air conditioning. i had my system charged the other day at a shop(cost me 70 bucks) and it doesn't blow cold, and sometimes the belt slips, i assume that's because of too great of pressure to turn the thing. anyway, the guy said its probably my expansion valve. so if i replace that, and follow your instructions, i should be good to go right? also i looked on autozone's website, and i don't see a vacuum pump in the loan a tool section
help!

With proof from a vent temperature gauge, my A/C will blow 40 degrees max cold when i am not in 115 degree arizona heat, and it blows 50 degrees constant while in the 115 degree heat. Max cold meaning when the evaporator air temp is 40 degrees aproximately, that is when whatever temp switch signals to the compressor to turn off and let the evaporator temp go up. Once it goes up a few degrees and turns back on. I assume this is to prevent ice from forming on the evaporator at 32 degrees.

maybe one day ill put it all back in. but you should still use one of those cheap-o low side gauges that come with the recharge kits to top it off.. you should never add refrigerant without gauges to monitor whats going on. MOST, will add to much. |
