Default EGT Probe, where to put it?

I bought an EGT Probe, but I'm wondering where I should put it?

I've seen people put it on their downpipe??

And then i've seen other people drill their turbo manifold and place the probe there.

I want the MOST ACCURATE readings possible. Thanks. Pictures would be nice!!!

create a nice tight little bung hole in your manifold for it.

i just got a EGT gauge too. shouldn't you put it some place where it could read all 4 cyl. If you put it on #4 cyl. and something goes wrong with #1 injector, you wouldn't know it? just a thought. how close to the head does it have to be? should it be before the turbo or can it be after?

The best place for accurate readings is in the hottest cyl(#3) within a distance
from the head which is equal to the diameter of the exhaust primary.
Every inch farther than that point and the temp drops SIGNIFICANTLY.

thats funny, I see a LOT of people put the probe allllllll the way down on the downpipe, near the downpipe Flange/collector.

SGT is right, you want it at your hottest spot! A fuel pressure guage will tell you if something like an injector fails in cylinder 1. EGT is not meant to monito that!

If you do this, will a new drag manifold crack? I will perform this mod within a week. Anybody know?

the instruction that came with my auto meter EGT says to put the probe on the down pipe close to the turbo.

Sorry I am a turbo newb and would like to know how I can tell if the installer is doing thing wrong? I am having the kit installed by someone who has done many turbo installs so am not too worried, but would like to know. What is the proper way of putting the EGT sensor in the manifold? Just drill it large enough for the sensor to fit? Could someone please expand on what is actually done....thanks.

i left the car running so when I drilled my manifold the shavings blew out instead of having a good time in the turbine blades. Use a bit a tad smaller than the fitting then crank the fitting in.

do you need to remove the turbo from the manifold before drilling a hole for the EGT? or can you just let it blow out the exahust turbine??? I know this is a stupid question but I'm curious.

you could let it blow out the exhaust turbine...that's if you want to expletive the blades and ruin your turbo. So the non-smartass answer is yes, you need to remove your turbo and make sure the manifold is clean of all metal shavings.

YOU TOO?!

hook it up on the manifold, 2inches from the head on runner #3

or put it after your turbo. it's up to you and how exact you want the reading.

about 2-3" from the head on the #3 cyl. #3 tends to run hottest, so it should be monitored closest. all other cyls should theoretically be cooler
