Default need help//can't feel power and vtec

hey guys, just bought a gsr 98 4dr. it was my first honda/acura car and had no idea on vtec and power on the car. i just tried my cousins 2 dr gsr yesterday with basic mods and what a big difference. compare mines to his, my gsr is sluggish and rpm climbs slowly. when i rode in his gsr, i can feel the full power of the car but as of now, i think my wife's old corolla can beat me on head to head.

i did basic tune up because the previous owner didn't really take good care of the car, it needed a little tlc. got it for 3500, so that's why i took the offer. car is nice and clean inside and outside. timing was done 2 yrs ago and waterpump changed when he had the service done.

Please and I appreciate and help you guys can give me, should I take it to honda/acura to check on engine. the other thing was i am only getting max of 250 on gas with a full tank, i think it's not normal, the engine looks fine with no leak or anything.... my brother was joking to me that it may be a ls instead but still...any help will be appreciated. thanks.

what is the engine code?
if it says B18B than its an LS engine
if it says B18c1 than its an GSR engine and you shouldn't feel the vtec kick in till the higher rpms. how many miles are on the engine and maybe a basic tune would help.

thanks guys, all are helpful tips. The car is a B18c1 and has 92,000 miles on it. I took it to Honda dealership and did a engine diagnostic and said the timing was off so they adjusted and now I do feel more horse coming through. I will continue with the basic tune ups, though I don't why I can't hear Vtec on a stock engine. Can some one give me an idea of how it sounds...I'm a newbie to Honda. Thanks for all inputs.

Because its a stock engine GSR, it has 2 stages that kick in less pronounced that for example a type-r..... but you should be able to tell the difference, put an intake on the car and you will definately be able to hear it.

that intake manifold was designed for smoother performance thats why the vtec crossover is not that loud.

heres the example of vtec

http://videos.streetfire.net/s...C.htm

250 miles to the tank in the city is about right. The car is rated at 25/31 and has a tank of 13.2 or something. The rest is for reserve
