Killer info! Got tons of opinions etc. I'm still thinking of getting an R6 though, taking it slow and not pushing yourself before you're ready I think will make it ok to own a 600cc.

i took the msf saftey course before i started riding. i then, a few weeks later, laid down a honda xr650, and i was not messing around. luckily, i walked a way with a broken wrist.

my point is anyone can take the msf course, but the only thing that can truly educate you is seat time. you can read all the books you like; they're only words. i think people should start out on dirt and then move to the street. if you fall on dirt, it's not a big deal. pavement is entirely different. i think a person needs to fall a couple of times before they start to respect a bike, and you can do that on a dirt bike. i also think the msf course should include much more time actually riding the motorcycle.

this are my opinions.. if you do not like them, i have others.

I really want to get a bike just for fun and of course to be fast. I dont wnat to go for looks, but I want show and go.......

Right now Im looking for 500 to 600 CC coz im soon to be a beginner.

Ready for susuki sv650

Hey there, yet another prospective rider. Mainly because I'm a college kid and car insurance was way too much money (even for my nice driving record) for my tastes. When I heard how much my bike buddies paid a year for insurance that definately was enticing.

Ya, I'm gonna take the MSF course. I dunno, maybe I'm just too calm but I'm perfectly happy to just putz around town with the thing until I'm confident that I can take a turn. Driving/riding fast on a street ain't my style. Full leathers with all that extra padding on a track I can handle.

I'm looking into CBR F2's at the reccomendation of a friend of mine. Said "it's a good starter bike." At the same time, the damn thing still has 100 hp. I don't think I'll ever outgrow a bike that fast. Anything about a CBR F2 that I should be worried about?

You would be surprised how you get used to power. I put the CBR away for nearly a year because i was going to end up losing my life/licence! The CBr seems to be the pick for all the learners...probably due to the amount/cost. I would go smaller than that for the first bke...blah...blah....blah, does anyone listen ever?

If that's a great beginner bike for girls, what's a great one for guys? I was looking at that Ninja 250R as a beginner bike. The statement you made as it being a "good first bike for ladies" completely swayed me away from getting it.

That's actually my second choice.

The only reason why I like (but am not limited to) these two as beginner bikes is that they are low. I feel I'd be better off if I could fully rest both my feet on the ground. From my understanding, the bigger bikes are almost always higher.

too many assumptions for me, not every newbie wants to start on a new 600cc sportbike. im starting on a 72 honda cb350 twin. later im getting a honda hurricane(f1) to get the feel of a sport bike. i'll move up from there once im ready. i guess what im saying is not all new riders are jack-asses as the article made it out to be. yes there are too many jack-asses on bikes, but not all newbies are.

respect the bike and you will live longer...

learn to use your head and common sense...

learn to control the throttle and brakes...

learn to control your body...

take the MSF course and after mastering those techniques, practice on a small bike for a long time...start small and then move up, it could very well save your life...experience is necessary for sportbikes...

anybody can ride a sportbike, whether its a 250cc Ninja or a 1300 'Busa...being able to ride it well is the point...

to all new riders, ride safe out there...

Most all standard and sport bikes have a seat height of 32" give or take a .5". You can have a bike lowered. You are smart in wanting to be flat footed. I wish I had learned on and stayed with a smaller bike longer. I would be a better rider today.

Hahahaha! NOOOOO! Don't let that be a problem for you. I would not be afraid to ride one! What a hoot those must be! Once you mastered it you would literaly cream other riders on bigger less throwable bikes who never learned how to put them to their potential because they had so much power and weight to work with.
