Re: what to look for to identify si tranny?
I am going to continue on with my tranny dilemma, not for long I hope. Can someone correct me if I am wrong here... I read that that the tranny from D16A1 (1 gen integra) doesn't fully bolt up to our D15B... and D16A6. If this is true, that stinking D15B7 door stopper in my garage can be used to determine if it is what I don't want it to be (integra and not the Si tranny). Right? Thanks

If you pop out an axle seal you can measure the inner bearing surface on the diff. 40mm=si 35mm=other
Ive never heard of this mentioned before but its a sure way to tell if its big bearing trans.
I have both in my basement that I can measure if people want pics.

You know, one picture is worth a thousand words, I think it would be great if you could post them here, I'd really appreciate it. Could you explain the measurement of the bearing in more detail, please. I have a hard time visualizing it. Thanks

my car is a 90 dx sedan and the donor is a 90 SI hatch. does this mean i should still get the donor's axles since the outer splines are different? if the outer splines different (is this the splines that connect to the hub?) then i should also get the donor hubs? thanks

Easy way to tell si trans from the rest.
Pop out an axle seal and measure like so:
Dx=35mm or 1.378"
Si=40mm or 1.575"

Re: what to look for to identify si tranny?
Depends on the year.
88 spline count is different from 89-91
88-89 clutch diameter is different from 90-91
If your DX is an 88, you need an 88 trans or you need to change the clutch plate to an 89 to work with the 89-91 trans.
If you DX is 89, you need an 89-91 trans or change the clutch plate to an 88 to work with an 88 trans.
If your DX is a 90 or 91, you need an 89-91 trans or change the clutch plate to an 86-89 Accord to work with the 88 Civic trans
I saw a great "which clutch do I need" flowchart online once that outlined this stuff but I did not bookmark it and can't find it now. Oh wait, here it is, in the FAQ stickied at the top of this forum...

Re: what to look for to identify si tranny?
this thread is a lot of help, but i have one question on replacin a axle seal should u be able to push it in with good force with your thumbs? and how far should it be pushed in? flush with the outer edge? reason i ask is i just it yesterday and put the axle back in and it leaked bad ( not between the bearing and the case but the axle and the shaft) i cant pull the axle out buy hand but i think its not all the way in cause there is a bigger gap then the pass. side.
Any ideas?
