found a little time today to mess w/ the car. drained the oil from the dyno runs, no milk anywhere to be found, but oil was a little off color and smelled a little like fuel.
no milk in filter either, no metal anywhere to be found. everything looked very clean btw, during assembly i set the ring gaps fairly loose: 21 top, 24 2nd, 18 rails, i didnt know if the motor would like unleaded w/14:1. i figured better to be safe than sorry. for crankcase venting im using the stock nipple on the back corner of the valve cover going to a can. also blocked off hole for pcv valve and added another nipple in its place on the back of the cover going to check valve after collector in exhaust. |

Why not have the head pressure tested and magnafluxed. THen you will know for sure where the problem is.

i should have press. tested the head after last season, but i was sure the leak was in the block. that block came from a salvage yard and had a small external leak on the front of it, basicaly water was seeping through the alum. i just thought it had been stressed when the car was wrecked.
the new block is out of my old prelude so i know its good. when i pull the head i plan on press. testing it to make sure its the problem. i was also thinking of maging it, but dont think you would be able to see into all the oil galleys. |

long live the Hnot enough people make big investments in H motors and post them up on h-t, there are plenty of expensive K's being posted up all the time by the edo guys and random others though....nobody sees that H motors can do the same kinda stuff with money spent in the right places

went to the track today for testing. made 2 passes and decided to call it a day, things didnt go that well. air temp. was in the low 50s, and there was a decent head wind. running on m/h 23x8x13. here are the results:
1st pass: 11 psi 60'....1.703 330'..5.075 1/8...7.712 @94.25 1000'9.977 1/4...11.883 @119.32 2nd pass: 10 psi 60'....1.671 330'..4.993 1/8...7.606 @95.39 1000'9.853 1/4...11.752 @119.56 good news is the trans seems to be shifting great, although i was grannying it a little. bad news is the car is doing the exact same thing it did last season, as soon as i get into 2nd gear it throws me back in the seat and then seems to fall out of vtec and break up for a split second, then it comes alive, throws me back in the seat again and it tears down the track. i can tell the car is def. faster than last season, from the top of 2nd on it pulls VERY hard. i leave the line @ 6k and it spinns through the top of 1st (pretty sure i will need larger slicks) i was wondering if the rpms were dropping low enough between 1st and 2nd to cause it to fall out of vtec, but vtec engages @ 5k and im sure the rpms dont drop that low. its hard to keep an eye on everything all at once, especially during 1-2 shift. im thinking about mounting a cam. in the car and making another pass next weekend. as far as the water leak, the oil cap got creamy during the first pass and after the second pass the dipstick barely showed any signs of milk. the oil still smells like fuel. im wondering if theres any way the milky oil in the head could be caused by blow by? anyone ever heard of that happening before? i will probably make a pass next weekend w/ a cam. to double check rpm, but even if the rpms were dropping that low it shouldnt break up. it should just fall out and then come back in again. it feels like it falls out, breaks up, and then comes back in. the motor is tunned to be in vtec above 5k, so if for some reason it falls out at 6k it would probably load up and break up like its doing. the weird thing is it only does it in 2nd gear every pass. hopefully i can figure this out because its starting to piss me off, but hey at least the trans. shifts

Randy car looked good I think once you get back into the swings of things you will be surprised, the first two runs will not be the record seting passes

thanks, i guess i will definately mount a video cam in the car and make sure the rpms arent dropping below 5k during 1-2 shift. that way i can also whatch what the wideband reads at that point.
if that is not the cause, then i will pull the head and pressure test it. hopefully finding a leak. seems like i can never have any normal problems like everyone else. i always have the goofy, never seen or heard of before problems. im starting to think my car has a poltergeist.

Everyone has problems... No matter what it seems.. Some people have it more together then others making it seem like they dont have any problems..
My advise would be to rev the motor higher in 1st. overshoot your powerband by about 1,000 rpm that way when you go into 2nd you wont bog down. After that keep doing what your doing. Or you might want to try a smaller diameter slick and go wider to keep traction.. have you tried 22x9x13? When you play around with tire sizes you change your gear ratio's alot. best of luck.

On the 11.75 pass you went 95.3 in the 1/8, I remember you went 11.6x before what was your 1/8 mph on that pass?

thanks, i appreciate it. i wish you guys could hear what the car sounds like or see what it feels like. its definately not bogging at all. you can hear the pop where it goes out and back into vtec but in between it breaks up, hesitates almost like a misfire or det.
last season i kept an eye on the rpms while it was happening and they never went below 6k. it was hard to remember to watch everything today, i was trying to keep an eye on the wideband. there will be a camera in the car next week, so maybee everyone will be able to see and hear. i got rid of the 22x9s when i started making power. they wouldnt hook at all. im sure if anything i need to go to a 24.5x9. 23s are tall enough but they dont have 9" wide. im thinking if it hooks earlier in 1st it will build more momentum to go into 2nd. this is if the problem is in fact the rpms. |

you should get the S300 and start datalogging every run so you know whats going on and you'll have that thing figured out in no time.
