Would this swap even be possible? I noticed the sound file sounds just like a viper with heads, cam and high flow cats.

Making 100hp at the price of extra weight, possible unbalancing the chassis in the process? Its not like you're throwing a 150lb rotary in there, its a nice hefty iron block v8.

Whoa show me a 150lb rotary!
The LS1 weighs as much as a rotary engine. You seem to not know the rotary engine is cast iron, and the ls1 is ALL-aluminum. You might want to go over to torquecentral.com and ask the weight differences between a 13b and an LS1. How much does an s2000 motor weigh????

I'll show you a 150lb N/A rotary if you show me an iron block v8 that weighs the same. The S2000 longblock is roughly 240-260 lbs.

One last thing the Ls1 longblock weighs about 70-100 pounds at the most more than the s2k longblock, YOU will not feel that.

Actually I do have experience with the rotary, FC/FD chassis both. Worked on an N/A '86, so there's my source. Either ways, the S2000 motor and the rotaries we're pulled by myself, with the help of a hoist of course.
Consider that 100lbs. I saved maybe 10lbs with my fenders, 2 lbs with the hood, 30lbs with the single exhaust, stripped it for another 100 or so lbs(softop too). The weight savings isn't all from one area in the car either. I actually just lightened the rear end a little. Adding the LS1 in the front would put my F/R weight balance around 55/45, or even more front biased. Personally, I don't think its worth it. Going from high strung to torquer, I'm sure the LS1 would twist my chassis to shit if I hadn't seamwelded it already. |

slideways, a few experiences here and there don't count as reputable source of information.
first of all, you're forgetting that when you swap an LS1 into either an FD and s2k (if it's even been done in s2k) chassis (i'll use these two since they're similar in overall car weight), that just because there's an extra side of cylinder banks doesn't mean it's going to "twist the chassis" and that you would have to get it "seam welded." so when you say when an s2k w/ 450hp to the wheels, i would need 2 get it seam welded??? do more research.... i don't think you really know what you're talking about. a 450 hp LS1 is just as powerful as a 450 hp F20/22. it's the torque that makes the difference. swapping in the LS1 in the FD is a very smart idea since it only adds approximately 60 lbs., and that's MAINLY due to the t56 6speed transmission, not the LS1. LS1 is very light aluminum. not to mention the higher reliability that comes along with it. couple of buddies w/ their LS1 FD's are laying down 450 hp on average and just about the same torque figures. and this is just bolt ons work. my other friends w/ the FB, 1st gen. rx7, has a 5.0 ford mustang V8 in his, and he loses traction all the time. i'm waiting to see when what our other friend's LS1 FB will do. and their chassis aren't even "seam welded." although seam welding is a good thing to do, it won't FUBAR the chassis to the extremes you make out to seem to be. an LS1 swap doesn't FUBAR chassis dynamics or handling. if you go check out the new issue of sport compact car, my buddy mark, has his LS1 FD record the highest skidpad and the 3rd in the lap time category. the reason why he ranked only 3rd is because he personally drove the car himself as opposed to a professional race car driver from the ones available for the event. also, people forget that turbos, intercooler, piping, downpipe, and all othr necessary turbo hardware adds weight too. you can't exclude those factors since it is under the car's hood after all, right. turbo is iron, I/C gets heavy when core gets thicker, etc. blah blah blah. do u get the point? people read toooo much nowadays, believe into other people's hearsay and don't really get to have any first hand experiences for themselves. if you don't really know what you're talking about and going by what you only "think" then just be quiet.

I was talking about torque in the first place. I never mentioned HP once in my posts. Also, information that I gave was my own experience, and that I wouldn't do it to my own car. I didn't tell him to do it my way, nor did I say it was a bad idea. I'm not very experienced at 25, but I am doing it to learn for myself, not through "my friend's car" or "my other friend's car". Quit trolling.

quit saying useless information then.
working on a friend's car w/ dedicated amounts of hours is just as good as working on yours. same perspective/mentality is melted in to finish what has to be done. and FYI, my progress is on the way w/ another rx7 chassis. i'll keep a mental note to PM you about MY progress. and notice how my join date's back on '02. if anything you're the one's trolling by providing false information.

What does your join date have to mean anything? I've been on stupid Honda's since I was 13. Remember Speed Image? They opened when you were maybe 6 or 7? Go on now.

Ummmm...
perhaps a reputable 3rd party source? http://www.funco-motorsports.com/motor_weights.htm LS1 roughly 480 fully dressed From what little I know I understand a dressed f20c to be around 360-380? Anyone who has weighed the engine please jump in... I'm sure we've all seen the 1uz lexus v8 miata, MGB GT with the rover V8 (originally a chevy design), etc. V8 conversions are nothing new, to each thier own. I heard on this board that someone had a 5.0 mustang s2k as well. Personally I like the car as is
