k20a, k20a1, k20a2, k20a3, k20z1, k20z2, k20z3 whats the difference
What the difference with all the new k20, they all have about the same lbs-ft of torque 132 to 155 but hp goes from 155 to 220 so is it only the head is different or what ?!
k20a : 220hp, 155 ft-lbs
k20a1: 160hp, 141 ft-lbs
k20a2: 200hp, 142 ft-lbs
k20a3: 160hp, 132 ft-lbs
k20z1: 210hp, 143 ft-lbs
k20z2: 155hp, ??? ft-lbs

Okay, first off... there is no K20A1, nor is there a K20Z2... at least not in North America or Japan, so I don't know where you got that info. And you got the K20Z1 and K20Z3 mixed up.
Second, it's more than just the head. Some of the engines have oil coolers, a counterbalanced and balanced crankshaft (versus just balanced), and stronger rods. The Z engines have different ECUs than the A engines, and the new Z3 uses a throttle by wire system. Also, there's the issue of an LSD, found only on the K20A and K20Z3.

All K20A(*) have an LSD? It was an option on the CTR in all markets, and I <u>thought</u> it was an option on the ITR in most markets.

Only the JDM CTR EP3s are factory equipped with LSD, European CTRs come without LSD as standard and it´s no dealer option in most countries. The only European country I know about that can order LSD as an option for the CTR is Switzerland.

Don't forget that European CTRs come with a K20A2, whereas JDM CTRs come with the K20A, so to answer George's question, all K20A 6 speed trannies should have an LSD in them.

I feel like I'm calculating the date for Easter.
Is it the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox, but after Passover?
I before E except after C? Or was it G? What if the G is in a diphthong?
What if it's a JDM diphtong that was imported to Switzerland?

i live in canada and if i'm right in canada the k20a1 is the base rsx 02-04 and the k20z2 is the 06 new EL (forgot the new name)
so whats the different with the a and the z ?!

I like to give specific answers to specific questions. Your question is too broad and would probable take me a long time to cover all aspects.
As far as the difference between the a and the z... It really depends what Z you are referring to and what a....
The z1 and a2 have different cams, intake manifold but same block and head (bare)

I really thought the EL was just going to have a K20A3, and that the 155 HP rating was because of the new HP rating standards.
After thinking about it, though, I realise that they might have had to make some internal changes because of how the motor in the new EL would be tilted back against the firewall when compared to the motor that was in the old SiR.
I guess that makes sense, since some stresses would be different and some major parts (like the header, certainly) would have to be different.
Maybe that's also why we have a K20Z3 instead of just putting the K20Z1 into the new FG2 Si.

No no no no no. The base rsx engine is the K20A3... same as the EP3. And the new EL should have the same R-series engine in the new civics. There is no a1, and there is no z2.

ELs are just rebadged civics... so the engine should be the same as that (new R-series). If it has a K... well.. now I feel cheated!

I didn't want to take the word of a forum, so I did some looking around... you were right. K20A3 going into the CSX... maybe they're calling IT the Z2 though, due to the new SAE measurement regs (just like a z3 is basically a z1 + LSD).

supposedly thats the only internal difference between the engines. so it may be responsible for more than a 2 hp loss. seeing as the Z3 also has electric power steering should have made up a few hp.
