Default ZC-T 1.6L DOHC Setups OBD-0/1 Specs/Dyno #'s

Did a search for some info and found very limited amount of information. I've been reading through the LS-T thread for a bit and just recently the D-Series thread. So I thought it would be cool to start a DOHC ZC-T thread. So lets see your setups and numbers. I'm in the process of trying to determine which route I would like to go in my EG and having had a CRX before with a ZC I thought I might try to build an OBD1 ZC for my EG considering their a D-series base which is already cheaper to build than a B-series and the fact you can get one from a JDM supplier for 1/3rd the cost of a B-series I thought this would be an awesome budget build!

The only information I have found to date is from a user here on HT; liam821 and his wicked 380whp/280torque @ 23psi DOHC ZC-T. From what I understand it's a 93 Si with a built OBD1 ZC. Bottom end is a Golden Eagle special with all the goodies and a ported head by JG Engine Dynamics.

Here is a pic of his setup:

Stock internals I'm assuming? How long have you been running this setup? Any other mods i.e. Cams, headwork, fueling??

Just trying to get as much info as possible

Well I just got my ZC finished up on the build. I'll type up the specs later but basically we will be tuning up to 30psi on a GT3071Rwith an equal length manifold. We are hoping mid 400's which is almost maxing the turbo out. I'm sure the ZC can hit high 500's at the same boost level with a bigger turbo but I want to keep the ride more streetable and the GT3071R seems to have the better response on the street while providing a wider powerband and still have just enough top end for the 1/4 mile. I have searched everywhere for info on the ZC with any GT turbo set-up and found nothing. So all I can do is hope that I get good numbers out of it. I really don't know what to expect at this point but when its all said and done, I'm hoping for 300's in the 18-22psi range on pump gas and 400's to 30psi on race gas. I have spent a large amount of time in research and money into this build, so if you anyone needs help on where to get parts for a ZC build, I'll be happy to help you out. Pics of the set-up coming soon.

Yes the ZC came in a variety of configurations, but the most common is the OBD-0 1.6L DOHC that came in the 88-91 Civic's and CRX's in Europe and Japan. There is also an available OBD-1 version of this DOHC 1.6L that came in 92-95 Civic's that is apparently alittle less common than the OBD-0 version. There are also SOHC versions as well.

I'm trying to cover the DOHC versions on this thread.

Yeah the dohc ZC obd1 is a neat little swap in a EG. That picture above is my old setup, ive changed it now to something new now.

I now have a gt28rs which im gonna try to get around 300whp on pump gas, and 350-400whp (max it out) on race gas. Id like to have a nice powerband this time around.

The dohc ZC is a great little motor though, im pretty impressed with it.

Here is a dyno from my old setup above:

pump gas @ 20psi

Here is the race gas one, but i had a boost leak, you can see where the power isnt there in the topend. Annoying we didnt find it until it was too late.
racegas @ 23psi

^^^ Thanks Liam, those are some impresive numbers! I plan on using a GT series also. I want a real linear powerband, don't want any lag at all.

I actually based my ZC build after Liam's set-up. I'm hoping to hit a similar dyno graph with the GT3071R but with a little more response on the lower end. Liam, please post the dynograph on the GT28rs, I'm interested to see how the ZC's respond to the GT series turbos. That will at least give me a clue on how the GT3071R will do on my ZC.

The gt30 should spool alot better then my t3/04e 60trim. It will be a really nice setup!! I cant wait to see the results!

Well might be getting my ZC very soon... Some tech's at work are trying to convince me to run B-Series N/A, or LS-VTEC, but I'm resisting temptation of the mighty B's in favour of more affordable boost. I keep reminding them that by the time I swap in any B-Series I could have my ZC in and completely built for the cost of your average swap!

My Cousins Rover Coupe from the UK with a d16a8. Greddy manifold and a T25 with 0.48A/R turbine.

Running just over 5psi at the mo and 175bhp/150lbft, probably going to be pushing the boost up now its been running for a good few months now although clucth needs replaceing sooner. Not sure how high we can go.

I don't know how to post pics yet but Tobi at TC's performance was nice enough to take a few pics for me. http://www.thezcr.com/forums/s...11992
You gotta love that 3" throttle body. I'll get more pics once we get the turbo hooked up with the motor.
