its one of those, its illegal to use on highways deals IMO. You can buy and sell them, but its the purchaser who installs them and uses them on public roads who takes the flak if done improperly. Kind of like certain exhausts up here you can buy them, but they're supposedly illegal to use. (thanks westford PD)
i'm just waiting for my projectors. |

i think relatively no matter what car they're in they blind the shit out of you.
I say this because reflector housing such as in the maxima 02-03 are pure GARBAGE! I get glare from those cars all the time. Projector housing is a bit different as the cutoff is sharp and consistent, as opposed to maxima. So in general, unless you do a real cut off with projector, reflector hids are just as bad if not worse than hids in regular projectors |

halogen housing projectors are not ment for HID's. this is a prime example of Halogen projectors with a HID kit.

This is a really good post. Makes ya think twice before you switch to the HID kit.

Tell that to the cops in South Texas that don't know what HIDs are and never pull anyone over for them. One of my friends has a bolt-in HID kit, mad glare. I bet he'll never get in trouble for them.

Thanks for making this post. I try to tell people this when they ask about the HID kits, but it's like talking to a wall; since some n00b always comes in and talks about how great they are, and could care less about other drivers. Now I have somewhere to point them.

So where's the good news now that we've had the bad? Are there any retrofit projector headlamps for 5th gen's that people can use in combination with retrofit HID kits to achieve a proper beam pattern? I'm not sure about old Denji's, but I'm curious about the new TYC 1-pc's + HID's...

I had a kit before... sold it in favour of a retro which I haven't done yet
the light COLOR is impressive and gives higher visibility through contrast more than anything else. I mean... so much light pollution in the cities, so it's nice to have a diff't color light that overrides all the other crappy lighting on the streets. but like I said I sold them.

Think they should do the same with lifted trucks. Most of them love to keep their headlights pointed up high and fill your rear window with their headlights and blind you, since most hate small cars.
I get more mad over that than a bad HID kit.

alot of the trucks with HID's have very poor designs and cause alot of glare. the Escalades, Yukon's, both have horrible reflector housing designs.
