Default EF Cabin Harness Questions.

Ok guys, got a few questions that I can't seem to answer through searching. I have a 1989 Civic H/B STD. The wiring harness has had more then one set of hands on it and it's hacked to hell so I figured it might be better just to get another cab harness. I am going to go either SOHC or DOHC Vtec, so I figured I might as well upgrade to an EX or Si cabin harness. Now this is where I get confused. Does it matter if the EX/Si harness is from a '88/'89 or a '90/'91? I have read there is a difference and it won't work and I've read it will work. I have come to the conclusion that I cannot use a CRX cabin harness in my Civic. SO I know it needs to be a Civic Cabin harness, just don't know if since my car is a '89, do I need a '88/'89 EX/Si or if I can also use a '90/'91 EX/Si. I don't want to end up with a harness that the connectors don't match up. Just thought it might save me some wiring issues to just buy a mpfi harness instead of wiring it myself since I will need a cabin harness regardless. I also know I'll need the corresponding engine harness go with my cabin harness. HELP!! Thanks guys.

Still needing some info, is it possible to use a '88-'91 Civic EX/SI cab/under dash harness in a Civic STD/DX car. Upgrading to MPFI, will the harness PNP in the STD/DX car? I know I would have to use the corresponding engine harness to do this but will the connectors physically fit correctly? Also if I cannot do this, will a underdash/cab harness from an automatic transmission STD/DX work?

Ok, talked to some people I know and on here also. The conclusion I have came to is that you CAN use '88-'91 Si/Ex engine harness on your DX/STD model, but you will also be using the full cabin harness and the dash harness for your instrument cluster. Maybe this will help clarify some stuff in the future for people. Now I just need to find the Si/Ex cabin/engine/dash harness

yes, you can use the 88-89 si cabin harness with matching engine harness.

EX civics only came in 90-91 body styles.
if you plan on getting power options later i strongly suggest going with the EX harness.

But remember 88-89 and 90-91 have different style clusters and so you might want to grab the under dash harness as well.

either way, i strongly suggest going with 90-91 civic EX models because you will have the options already pre-wired if you decide to go that route later. so grab the followig:
1. Cabin Harness
2. Engine Harness
3. Under Dash Harness
4. Door Harnesses

if you go to pick n pull, you can grab all these for under 40 total. i grabbed my complete si harness, from headlights to taillights, for my crx for $36.00
