Is it possible I have a cable reel that is NOT wired for cruise???

I have everything thing there, but nothing to connect to my set/resume switches. What looks like the ribbon cable that would go to the set and resume, just has a wire coming back out and goes to the horn. Nothing to plug into my set/resume switch assembly.

So, my question is, how do I fix this??? Do I need a different cable reel???

I will try and take pictures here when I get home...

sounds you have the clockspring out of a non ex that had the cruise option. I would just find a ex one, should fix the problem

Vehicles that don't have cruise, don't have a clock spring wired for cruise. Simple as that.

Here a couple pictures. Yes, I know they are crapy (sorry) but hopefully you can see the connector I am talking about. One picture is the connector closed...the other is with the cover flipped open...

Am I back to needing the correct clock spring???? If so, will a clock spring from any 92-95 model civic work?? Or does it need to be a EX..

I forgot to say...it is a 93 civic EX

It would help to know some history here... does your cruise control work? Horn? What kind of project are you doing? Where are the CC switches in that photo?

Sorry for the lack of info...

I just bought the car...it has a reconstructed title and I suspect it was stolen before I found it and maybe even wrecked, due to other issues I have fixed so far.

I am trying to get the cruise control to work, it has never worked since I got the car..currently the main push switch on the dash lights up, but when I push the set/resume switches nothing happens and the indicator light in the gauge cluster does not come on. Yes, the horn works. Today I removed the set/resume switches and found they were just mounted but nothing connected to them. I then removed the air bag and the pictures is what I found.

I have a copy of a factor service manual I am using to troubleshoot this. The manual say the connector should just plug into the switches, and doesn't show anything about this type of option or connector that I have in the picture.

Thx for the help....I communicate 50 miles to work and having cruise would be very nice...

I can't recall exactly, but there might be a short ribbon cable that goes from the CC switch to the main clock spring reel cable? I just hunted around for some pics, but I couldn't find any. It's hard for me to say b/c my 94 Civic has cruise but not SRS. Some better pics (in focus) would really help!

I did more checking...after pulling the cable from the SRS cable under the dash to the clock spring on the column, I found the clock spring only has connectors in it for the air bag and the horn. Ohm'ed the cable pins out and I am missing the 2 pins going to the cruise control set/resume switches.

So it seems they put the wrong clock spring in for my car.

What clock spring will work...I have a 93 EX. What years and models??? Does it have to come from a 92-95 civic EX only????

I just checked this out, the reel for cruise has a different connector where that one lone wire comes out of. It could be converted if you wanted to solder it up, but it would probably be easier to just buy the correct reel from a junkyard.

Good. Mystery solved. Your options are from the 92-95 vehicles that had cruise. For USDM vehicles, these are:

2dr EX
3dr Si
4dr LX, EX

I have a clockspring w/cruise here that I would gladly get rid of. It's from a CDM 2dr 95 Si. Check the parts diagrams to see if a 95 clockspring is compatible with your 93. The price is right, though: $21.00 shipped to your door. PM me if interested.

For a lot of that stuff, anything within the generation will fit. Like, with the exception of AC components (R12/R134A), dashboards (91/93 had 1 airbag, 94/95 had 2), glove boxes.

Sure, but IIRC, at some point within the 5th Gen Civics the SRS changed from type II to type III. Doubtful that will affect anything for the OP but it's worth checking. I have seen two different styles of connector for the clockspring (under the dash). This led me to think that the part numbers could be different, but apparently they're not.
