To be fair I bird hunt all the time and it's not unusual to get "peppered" on a smaller field from roughly 50 yards or more but 100' is only 33 yards. That's pretty damn close for comfort, especially when you aren't catching an arc but a direct shot. lol

I don't think we know what kind of gun it was (other than a shotgun) or what kind of ammunition it was.

But with most of the combinations that are generally available at retail, the shot would be a relatively easy one for somebody acquainted with shotguns, and somebody whose adrenalin had not overcome her ability to take aim and act calmly.

I mean, I doubt it was a 10 gauge goose gun.

It was more likely a 12 gauge brush gun of the variety that people normally have in their homes.

I'm torn. On the one hand I think it's freaking awesome that a pregnant woman just manned up, pulled out her shotgun, and hit a target 100' away.

However on the other hand I don't think this woman was really in danger and while her property may have been stolen, it doesn't seem like she did anything to at least scare the guy off before she shot him.

That's pretty tough.

Poor desperate guy resorts to crime. Tries to break into a car to steal a stereo faceplate, and a couple of cds.

Guess what?

DEAD.

I don't like that particular argument about firing warning shots, or trying to scare the thief away. You have to always assume that a criminal is armed. If the lady fired a warning shot, that would have given the criminal a chance to pull a gun and return fire.

No doubt the situation had a tragic ending, and I don't think anyone should have died. But again, we don't know enough of the particulars.

Depends on what she's shooting, and the choke I suppose. Not big on shotguns, but I definitely wouldn't want to be standing in front of one when it went off from 100'.

Well as you know birdshot is not buckshot. Buckshot at only 30yrds = dead.

Then we have slugs which are more than deadly out to 100+yrds, let alone 30 lol.

Not that I feel bad for the thief or anything, but last time I checked, the punishment for stealing was not the death penalty...

He knew the risks especially since that asshole lived in Texas. He decided whatever he was stealing was worth more than his life.
Case close!
