Well I got it last month and put working on it off for awhile. But I threw some aircraft stripper on it and took all the red off. Then sanded it down more to get the rest of the red that was still on it off. Primer, wet sand and then today I put the coat of magnesium on and the clear before I left my friends shop. I'd say a good 3 hours in prepping, sanding and painting so far. Hopefully it's not too orange peely, if needed I'm going to wet sand and buff tomorrow. Then take all the tape maskings off and make sure they came out good.
Here's some shots from before. ![]() ![]()

Did you use a proper mask for the clear coat? The warning labels on some of those things give me pause.

Well all the aresol sprays start at like 32$, but depending on the color it may cost more. The magnesium came out to 38$ and the clear was 20$ so about 60$ total.
LOL noo, I did the last time I used the stuff

Got it finished today
Came in to my buddies shop today after the clear dried all night. Luckily there was no runs or orange peel. So I took the vinyl off that I used to cover the openings. ![]() After getting all that off I put some wax on it and wiped it off and put my stock plus cover and stock oil cap on to see what it looked like. I have a black Mugen oil cap on the car now I'm thinking of getting a gold one and the definite plan is to buy a kevlar plug cover. I kinda wanna do the whole spoon signiture on it but I want to do it from someone other than the spoon guy haha like Jason Ellis ( pro skater, XM radio host) or someone random lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think it came out great. I'm going to put it on the car in a little bit.

sick... good price... you could have just got it powder coated for the same price, but it does feel good when you do something yourself and it comes out as nice as it did...
you could always tape off the letters and spray them to match the VC...

Looks good. Does anyone know if the stock valve cover paint looks okay under clear coat? I don't necessarily want the look, but want to try and protect it from looking like his did after a few years:

looks good but that paint might eventually chip off. Thats what happend when I painted my 00 si valve cover back in the day. The motor got too hot and the paint slowly chipped off after a couple months

I thought so too, but my last valve cover on my rsx was painted similar and it lasted a good 10,000 miles. Plus it has some thick ass primer coating.
