Default help a bro. out

k so i've done LOADS of research and think with a few weeks of practice i can paint my car. now the time has come to find a decent gun and decent paint the rest is taken car for the body work supplies. oh except for a good filler for very minor holes so give me your recomendations

I need a HVLP gun
Good paint brand
and good body filler (very minor things such as door ding and a small spot where rust USED to be)

and my budget is around 200-300 for now but i could save up more if need be.
and i'm sure not all guns and paints were created equally so let me know

for your money... iwata or devilbiss will suffice... if u got more money... Sata

for filler... i use evercoat theyr'e the best IMO. door dings/scratches/wavyness you'll probably only need metal glaze. an actual dent.. use quantum or rage gold/xtreme

i can personally vouch for the devilbiss guns. works great I dont have any complaints for the price that i paid for them. Summit runs good deal on em every so often, check em out. Evercoat in my opinion is the best bang for the buck when it comes to fillers.

Ya definitely evercoats "rage". I have never used anything better. And I shoot with sata and iwata and love both but my preference is iwata. I really like the lph-400. However you will be spending nearly double what you want. I have never checked to see if either brand has a gun in your price range but I would assume not considering what I spend on mine.

i can vouch for devilbiss starting line, it's a cheapy gun, but i have done some work that has come out amazing with it...i also have an iwata, and this thing lays down clear like glass if shot properly

evercoat zgrip, evercoat metal glaze for your body filler and metal glaze, for small dings you can use just the metal glaze. If your color matching go with PPG/Diamont, if your painting the whole car you can go with Limco which is an excellent paint on a budget, its what im using, the 4100 high solids clear is excellent. As far as primer goes, limco 2k primer works great.

ok so thanks for all the advise. but i looked around and i think i can afford a devillbliss starting line one but i may get lucky on some other brands i was looking around online and i'll check the classifieds tomorrow. so i found one and it said good for priming

im assuming thats becuase of the big 1.8 tip. so could i just clean that then get say a 1.4 or 1.3 for my base coat?> and how much will a new tip cost ? and do i have to get a Devilbliss tip or is it a universal fit?

get the technical data sheet for the base coat and the clear coat when you buy your supplys, that will tell you what nozzle to use

ok that sounds good i'll be running to a few paint shops to see whats available. what is the average price of a tip?
and is it the tip or the gun that says if it's good for thick or thin paints?
when i saw kits for sale they had multiple gun instead of multiple tips, why is that?
my main question is, can i get away with buy only one gun and maybe 2-3 tips??

tips alot of times wind up being painter sensitive, specs may say to paint with a specific size but i know alot of painters that like using one particular size for their paint work, and they still get excellent results.

i read a page that said i might need a gun for my clear coat too?
i plan to practice for quite a while before i attempt to paint my D.D. so i will have time to experiment with tips.

so can i get away with only buying one gun? but with tips?

u can use the same gun for base and clear... if the paint and clear are same composition... im in LA county where u can only buy waterbase now... so my base gun is waterbase... but my clearing guns still spray enamel/solvent. i have two different guns for the two different compositions of material... but if you were spraying solvent base and solvent clear... u can use the same gun for both.. just clean be4 u spray clear...

i believe between the different paint guns, a certain brand will give you better results, but at the same time it can be user specific... i prefer sata but they're the most expensive. so it comes down to what you can afford. as far as different tips go.. i'd stick with a 1.3 or 1.4 no more... maybe even a 1.2...

Ya I would definitely just buy one good gun (I personally would get a 1.3 tip). You can spray anything through it (primer, sealer, base, clear, epoxy). And as long as you clean it well and take care of it it will last you a loooooong time

hey thanks for the advise every one, i looked at the devilbliss starting line paint guns. and read some reviews, seems people have had good results with them and nobody had any thing terrible to say about them..

if i find down the road half a year or so that i can do a good job painting. then i might get a better gun but i think this is a good starting place.
