I've been seeing the issue commercials here in Cincy.....I don't remember KY ever having such "vote FOR issue _____" hmm.
Anyway, if Ohio doesn't get it, the better for KY if the republican clowns ever allow it at Churchill Downs.

Wellllll.... got a text last night about the casino's being passed and I have to say, that was very unexpected. It's kind of a shame IMO, for one it's a shame how one sided the advertising was. MILLIONS were spent to get it to pass, yet it didn't pass that strong at all, and it was shot down the previous two times IIRC.

Very VERY little was spent on saying no to the issue, because, well the rest have very little to spend. IMO, money won this election, nothing else, and it's a real shame. It'll be interesting how this plays out, only time will tell, and luckily, we have a few on location (Cbus, Cleveland, and Cincy) to keep us informed. *watches Hatchy and Arch light up cigars and crack knuckles*

The McDonnell scheme for selling off the ABC stores is probably not going to work because the big wigs know that this is a net loss to the Old Dominion in five years. It'd raise a lot of money the first couple of years, but you're losing the long term income. He's going to have to think of something else, or abandon the project. I seriously doubt that the General Assembly is going to reduce education monies in order to fix the traffic problem.

1. Raise the speed limits 2. Reduce the fines for speeding 3. Enforce minimum speed limits Most traffic problems that I see every day are due to slow drivers clogging up the system. |

Might as well make it 12/21/12. I mean, it will be my birthday, and the end of the world all in one shot... sounds like a party to me!!
![]() When are they thinking these Casino's are gonna be up and running? I'm sure they will waste very little time.

The Commonwealth faces enormous licensing difficulties because of the immigration and language issues. Most legislators believe that it would be a net loss to the Dominion if we raised speed limits.
And have you seen some of the rickety junk that's trying to get inside the Beltway? Do you really want those cars driving at 80 miles per hour? Whatever solution you can think of to get those people or those cars off the roads is going to cause us to spend more money on this or that enforcement and inspection. And I might presume to object that there is a logical flaw in the premise. You're acting like people can hop onto a restricted access road that takes them straight to their homes. Even if we raised the limit on 66 to 80 miles per hour, the ramps are going to be dumping onto overtaxed Route 7 and Route 50, where there is little easement for extended merge ramps. What good does it do raising the speed limit if you're going to be backed up at the ramps because there's no way to get off? Quote:
Most people have no idea of vehicle dynamics, you know. Most people who are riding somebody's bumper at 80 really have no bloody notion of what will really happen to them in an emergency, or how dangerous it really is to drive that fast in traffic. Quote:
There isn't any legal way to even widen 66 inside the Beltway. There's no more easement, and the surrounding property is worth so much that you're going to run into the biggest funding problem in history. We have the power to condemn an easement, but there will be hell to pay politically, legally and financially. Remember that we're talking about a state in which one old man (Billy Munford) with an historic home in Goochland managed to hold up Route 288 for ten years. They ended up relocating the road and displacing hundreds of other property owners instead of fighting him further. The only real answer to this horrible traffic problem in the DC/NoVA area is to get people onto safe, logical and efficient mass transit.

80 in a new car and 80 in a 25 year old car are two different things. Quote:

But what I see is if someone on 288 where the limit is 65mph, and the fast lane clicks along just under 80. What happens is you'll have people in the slow lane doing 60 which causes the "normal" slow people to have to pass them. At which point you get someone doing 65 entering the 80mph traffic and hell ensues. If you could ticket the people doing 60mph, and not ticket the people doing only 20 over, things would flow, and IMO, be safer. Quote:
I would also like to see another highway built beside 95 and 301 that goes from Richmond past DC. 301 and 95 together are not enough for the traffic volume. |

So most of the people who vote between presidential years are doing so because they give a shit about the issues rather than deciding who they don't want running our country into the ground for the next four years. The lady and I made a date of it last night. Voted, bought a dishwasher, snagged me some new dress shoes and smuggled Subway into Ice Age 3 at the dollar theater Sexy.

About only 10% voting, I agree and understand that, BUT, I feel even that 10% is not really well informed, and them too are swayed heavily by media. I'd say 2-3% (of that 10) are really informed, but of course that's just a guess. I thought it was sad yesterday going to vote and seeing how empty it was compared to the white house election. SO much that effects us can happen in these smaller elections.

Crime creates/saves jobs so bring on the gambling, pillaging, rioting, etc.
