Thanks for the link sumslapper. I'll have them send me a sample to compare and see if it's the same fabric.

There is a Recaro.uk site but I cant seem to find it at the moment. I will try to find it when I get off work. Im sure you can find it and contact them directly instead of hearing hater comments or tall tales and get your facts directly from the source. Good luck

Thanks for being helpful. I'm familiar with Capital Seating, and I asked them about buying the mesh fabric already. If you read a few posts up, I posted the response I got. They said you can't buy that specific kind of fabric from them as it's licensed for sale to Honda only. You can buy the alcantara, but not the mesh.

I'll let you know if the kind from the eBay auction is the same as the kind on the JDM Recaros.

I found this place as a possible fabric source as well: http://www.on-trackperformance.com/

I am going to call tomorrow to find out if you can buy it from them.

Yeah, since my goal was to deceive people... I already took them off a couple days ago, so you won't need to worry about accidentally buying them. They're installed in my EJ1 right now

Thanks for all the interest though!

I was gonna leave this alone but I did a search on Minkara (Japanese car owner's site similar to CarDomain.com)

I found a guy who did a side by side comparison of the SRIII (DC2) and SRIV (DC5) Recaros. He states that the that fabric is IDENTICAL. Since the seats in the pic are of different age, there is a slight color variation.

And sure, I can hear Recaro saying, "oh, we can sell you the red alcantara fabric through ebay and even advertise it as the fabric that Honda uses, but the mesh is special. You can't have that because it belongs to Honda "...yeah right, and as if it can't be found anywhere else...

That was an awesome post. I'm not saying the fabric is impossible to get, but I've been looking for over 5 years for some with no luck. I should have been more specific about the DC5 fabric. The link here I was replying to:

Have you tried to just contact Recaro directly? It seems silly they would offer the bolster fabric but not the middle tweed. Why would only the middle be so sacred?

So here is his exact quote and I tend to find him more credible because he's posted pictures comparing the two, and he's not trying to sell anything:

Quote:
translated: And because these SRIII have started to show wear and tear, I've decided to swap them for SRIV's. I immediately went to the auction, and looked for and acquired a set of Integra (DC5) OEM Type R SRVIV Recaros that are in good condition. I then immediately compared them to my SRIII's and found a minor difference in the headrest design. The Recaro lettering is now white and a bit bigger that the previous black lettering (on the SRIII), and the fabric is completely identical.

If you don't believe me, run it through a translator yourself. Again, from my own eyes, and having actually seen and touch the DC5 SRIV Recaro, I tend to find what this guy is saying to be true and that the 2 seats are made of the same fabric, hence the fabric that is being sold on the internet is more than likely to be the same as the DC2, if it is indeed Recaro who is selling it.

Yes, I detailed it in this thread. They said they can't sell it.

I agree with you. What I meant is that the eBay link cuonglong posted was not the same fabric as the DC2 Recaro. The holes are completely different. I'm sure the seat materials between DC2 and DC5 are the same, I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

The "avus" seems to be similar to what he posted, but I won't know until I get a sample.

Thanks for posting that, though. I didn't know the DC5 seats were called the SR4.

That ebay link is capital Seating...I like that you can get all new foam padding and pre stitched fabric to re due your recaro's. Even the back rest cover will even have the "recaro" logo. It'll cost a bit but at least you can re due your seats in the exact same fabric. Also they got seat covers which I'm trying to buy sometime

No you didn't, they are still listed for sale at the top of the ITR forum in the FS/WTB thread.

For a very short time, I worked at an Auto Trim Shop that did upholstery work, sunroofs, gold plating, and other various custom jobs. Our primary customers were local dealerships.

Occasionally our customers would send us brand new base model vehicles, with factory cloth seats, and have leather interior installed. We would trash the brand new cloth, source OEM style leather, and reupholster the seats, door panels, etc. This allowed dealerships to carry a smaller inventory and offer more options to their customer. The dealerships then sold these cars Brand New, with "OEM" options. The end buyer had no idea an Auto Trim shop around the corner was actually adding all of these "factory installed" or "OEM" options to their purchase.

Its quite possible that something similar may have taken place in Japan. If a buyer requested matching red rear seats, a motivated salesman may have gone to great lengths to make that a possibility, and insisted the seats were "OEM".

Just because HT is having a hard time sorcing the tweed fabric, I wouldn't discount the possibility that somebody was able to get their hands on some.

Bottom line, if the seats were not offered FROM THE FACTORY, as a factory installed item, I have a hard time classifying them as truly OEM.

I forgot about that one; it's been removed already.

I agree with you. The only thing that would really prove if this was truly an OEM piece or not would be the sales brochure for 95-97 DB8 Type-R and see what options are listed.
