A test pipe is nothing more than a piece of metal with no engineered design on it....I say just go ebay.

If you want to stay legal I would get a catalytic converter, wheather it's made for your exhaust or not. You can get a universal catalytic converter and have the flanges welded on so that you can remove it whenever you please.

Same goes for a test pipe, but most shops will not make a test pipe for an automobile because it's illegal.

Like they said bud a test pipe is a test pipe. As long as the diameter is the same as your exhauxts you can go as cheap as you would care too. Why spend extra money for the same thing? Hell you could even buy a piece of (I'm assuming 2.5" if you have an aftermarket setup) pipe, and your flanges and weld it all together. Oh and an o2 bung, but for that matter just buy an e-bay for $25 and call it a day!!!

Wait a second. The reason why you want a testpipe is because you don't want to stay legal? And to answer your question the PasswordJDM 2.5 testpipe would work, but you can probably find a cheaper one on Ebay.

Test pipes are lame. If you're on the street just get a high flow cat. They are really cheap and flow just as well as a test pipe, without all the NOx. Don't make children breathe your exhaust fumes just because you want 0.5 extra hp. Please don't make this worse:

^ yeah, but you shouldn't contribute to it though...get a high flow cat. It might even help you. That pic looks like LA, or even fresno CA.

Yeah, that's LA. It's not just NOx but a mix of NOx and ozone, which of course is formed by reacting with NOx molecules.

That may or may not be true, but it's a moot point because it doesn't mean it's OK for all of us to do whatever we want regardless of the consequences. Besides, if everybody had that attitude you'd *really* see the power of indifference. A high flow cat is only $40 or $50 more than a test pipe, has the same affect on power output, and dramatically reduces the polluting effect of driving a car, so why not do the right thing? You've got a choice.

Well, not exactly. Neither of my cars is an LEV (96 GS-R and 99 CR-V), but both make somewhere between 0.4 and 0.1 g/mi NOx, which is an order of magnitude less than they would make without cats. I did some math and found out that if roughly a quarter of a thousandth of a percent of the people in the US drove without cats, they would produce as much NOx emissions every year as every power plant in the country combined, so it doesn't take much. FWIW I'm 95% sure our next car will be a Prius and then we'll have the perfect stable, but we can't afford to buy one now as we're both grad students.

For the record, my primary mode of around town transportation is my bicycle (1000-2000 mi/yr). I definitely drive around town when I'm shopping, and my cars pick up some serious mileage in the summer, when my wife and I drive the CR-V to get up rough forest service roads to her research sites in the mountains. I'm not perfect, but I try to do what I can to minimize my impact on this and other environmental issues and still enjoy my hobbies.

None of this has anything to do with the OP's original question, but he/she did ask, so I'm replying to that.
