It's still a toy. In fact I'm building a new engine for it while doing a minor rewire. It might make it out to a couple local events this coming year. |

I don't know if it is the same story as the BMWs, but it was common knowledge that the 4-door cars had much more structural rigidity than the 2 door models. I also know that a number of newer Honda race teams are opting toward the 4-door models because they have a slightly longer wheelbase... not sure if either of these reasons fit.

ive heard the same things, due to the longer wheel base they handle alot better, not to brag but mine handles really well for the little amount of things i have done to it

Having more rigidity structurally speaking, and handling much better because of wheel base are 2 totally different information.
Civic 96-00 sedans have 10 inches more body, while they have the exact same 103.2 inches wheel base. Sedans will be heavier and 0.6 inches higher than coupe/hatch. This said, ignoring the fact that the weight will be limited by the sanctionning body (ie not by the car itself), hatches makes for an easier platform to start with, in my opinion. I am pretty sure a cage will make them chassis rigidity differences unexistant, so saying one chassis is better than another is absurd (i am) in a racing (weight limit) context, while using the lightest chassis should be on top of the reasons you choose a shell in an amateur-looking-for-ideal-in-this-not-so-ideal-world context. Didn't mean to sound like a jack ass but reading replies here made me think about it...this concerns 96-00 Honda Civic only...

If spec weight is above the sedan's minimum weight, which I assume it would be in most cases, there may still be a school of thought to use the longer trunk space as a tuning tool. I assume a Honda hatch has a fair amount of natural nose weight which can't be too fun to deal with on a FWD car at times. I know the same people that opted for the 4-door modern Si did so to better replicate the TSX which was an amazing car-- even compared to the Civic. I tested both of these cars and the Civic was very twitchy compared to the TSX. The latter would rotate a large amount on entry thanks to a bit more rear weight (and therefore more inertia) and then as soon as you planted your throttle foot it would settle down thanks to the wheelbase. The only other Honda I've every driven was an EK hatch and it definitely was an interesting car to setup properly and drive compared to the modern Civic 4-door and TSX.

HAHAHA Depends on how fat the chicks are in the back seat when your going around the track.
And stinky, you can only do it sideways for so long before you gotta change positions. datni99ahern Thanks for the pics. I'm actually supposed to be trading this saturday for a 98 white lx- all I gotta say is, boosted DD. |

I still see no evidence of it being faster around the track

lol. actually yes that em1 was holding me up both me and stinkycheez were yelling. lol. but he finally gave the wave by.
the 240 i dont remember getting by but he had a rb26 swap with an upgraded single turbo from what i was told. so that up against a stock d16 yiiiiiikes. and also just because a car is "behind" someone doesnt mean the ahead car is "faster" nor does it mean one chassis is faster than the other. i just posted the pic for sedan love purposes. |
