Default how to: crx sunroof permanent delete

alright let me just try to shed some light on this topic. like i did with the seat belt conversion ha.

heres a few reasons for my extensive modification...
my sunroof was rusted and broken.
i dont like sunroof plugs.
and most important, weight reduction at the highest center of gravity!

i think theres a few honda guys that i've seen done this...
CRX VT(not sure i got his name right).
and wes V on his hatchback

anywhere here we go...

1-get a roof, headliner, and sunvisors from non sunroof version. and say goodbye to the sunroof

2-scrap off all the sealant in the jams and on the seams. drill out all the spot welds, pop it off

3-remove the trunk, windshield, sunroof junk and do step 2 to the car plus make this incision...

4-pop off the roof... dont worry the car wont cave in or flex with out the roof. so you dont have to put anything to keep the structure together.

5-drop on the new roof to test fit it.

6-take it back off and clean off the surfaces, spray some weld-thru primer and clamp down the new roof and weld it on, tack welds all the around boys.

7-put on some urethane sealant all over the edges and paint to protect it form rusting and leaking. yes all around the whole top, not just the front...

8-put on the roof liner and visors(the sunroof visor are slightly bent to clear the sunroof system the non-sunroof is straight) on put on the windshield oh dont forget to put the trunk back tada...

it was a pain in the ass and there would be a few different things i would do if i could do it again, it took me 3 days of part time work on it.

disclaimer:
do not attempt this if your a noob. i just made it look easy and i ain't responsible for your idiocy.

hope you enjoyed.
oh yeah 1500post mark

WHAT?? It's the same method, in that you retain the front and rear inner cross-members.

There are two things that do amaze me! One is that he says that it only took 3 "part-time" days. The other thing is that he was able to remove the original section pretty much as one piece.

What size drill bit did you use? Type and brand of the primer used, please. I will be doing this soon, to my sedan. Oh what type of mig did you use, and settings.

You have a factory sunroof in your Sedan? Does it still work?

No my roof on my sedan is all beat up. The car came from Colorado, and is now with me in San Diego, Ca. So the salt and snow just ripped my car a new one. The roof has a huge dent in it that was hidden by bondo, and then started to rust out. So i have a slightly used roof sitting in my garage. It looks tits.

I just need to know what size drill bit was used. This way, i can separate the new skin from the frame it sits on. i will take pictures tonight.

i used 8mm spot weld drill bits. and SEM weld-thru primer

as for my welder its just a POS lincoln weldpak100 with a gas conversion. i dont remember the settings. just practice on some scrap metal and find what works for you.

this is one of the things i would change if i had it do it over again. i wouldn't weld it, i would use rivets instead, i would be able to paint all my pieces and just rivet it on to prevent rust from starting. the weld-thru primer isnt the best thing around, its ok but i dont trust it...

im not sure how easy it is to add it on but you will have to add on these tabs that allow you to bolt the sunroof down, these are located along the sides.

Nice!!! I got the same result by converting my DX to Si standards, every Si part but the sunroof I did this cause I wrecked my Si and had a bonestock DX to buildup though your way is WAY faster and cheaper, lol good work man.
