Default How to: Install replica bass tubes Crx cr-x jdm

So, this is a pretty simple deal & how to's shouldn't be necessary for anyone, but I'm relaxin Saturday & figgured I'd make this for whomever.

Take your bits n pieces:
- drill bit smaller than your screws of choice (to secure speaker)
- your 6.5" speaker of choice
- needlenose pliers
- phillips head screwdriver
- flathead screwdriver
- one big fan to keep you cool
- one nice light if you do it at night

First, go ahead and remove the rear speaker grills, obviously. That's what the flathead is used for. To pop the grille loose after you undo the 2 phillips heads.
Next, remove the OEM honda speaker that's held down by one screw, now that's funny.

Be sure to remove all four of those phillips heads you see, because the tubes will mount to those for holes.
Next take the wiring that comes out of the rear of the tubes & connect the two to eachother. The smaller female blade connector is the negative side & the larger is positive.

Here's an issue I came up with. The male blade connectors are both the larger size, but problem solved if you just slide it inside the oem insulator around the female blade. It holds fine.

next, carefully fit the tube into place, may require a bit of a shove, but don't gorilla it in there, it should fit.

Personal prefrence is I mounted the speaker after I installed the tube itself. If you've got a steady hand do it this way, if you don't install the speaker first like here.

Next, the replica tubes do not have any holes for you to mount your speakers, my tool of choice isn't a huge drill, it's a hand drill.
just flip the wrist a few times and w/out too much pressure you should have your necessary holes. I did this with the 6.5"s sitting on the tube, so don't slip & poke your speakers

after all that you should have it all done and lined up.

As a refrence point if you want to do it like I did, see where the mounting tabs are. I doubt it matters a lot but i wouldn't cover the speaker port.

BE CAREFUL drillingn those holes, and also when installing the screws. It's thin fiberglass.
Always do this on a nice sunset.

TO clear the wind:
These aren't subwoofer replacements. Sheesh, I'm still going to install my sub since I have it just sitting around. The tubes MOVE air, you can def. feel lots of air moving through that port. No, it's not whistly or anything you only hear the speakers. Ideally you'd want tubes in the front, but these work great, are a piece of cake to install & are a lot cheaper than the real deal. I think they sound fine so I'm leaving them how they came. Some say stuff them with polyfill, but meh, I have other things to do.

The skinny:
Where can I order these?
Orange Hat Design
Who can I ask to bug him questions about what he made?
jdm_tubes@comcast.net (Jonathan Bianco)

I don't work for them or anything, just helping out.

How exactly does this tube "move air"? What will that do and whats the result of the install... more bass? louder?

"enclosure"
ported
[quote=diysubwoofer.comThe ported enclosure system is characterised by lower distortion and higher power handling in the system's operating range, and lower cutoff frequency than a sealed enclosure system using the same driver. Distortion rapidly increases below the cutoff frequency however as the driver becomes unloaded, and the transient response of a ported enclosure system is usually inferior to that of a sealed enclosure system using the same driver. However, the lower cutoff frequency and better power handling within the system's passband often makes ported systems the alignment of choice for many speaker builders.[/quote]
I'm not going to go in to how all that stuff works down to a science. Honda already did that for me with this design. this guy just modeled the design so that more people can enjoy them w/out the $400 "rare" pricetag.
They are deep. For example, if you need to undo your rear shock assembly (the 2 14mm nuts) you will probably hav eto take these out if you still have full interior.
go inside any nice living room equipped with a speaker system
there you will find ported enclosures & no not more bass. it's not made so that you can listen to more bass, it's fuller richer sound

you don't by any chance have any measurements on these do you? Like how much space they have or the size of the speaker hole? I had a set of JL 6w0 subs sitting under my bed that might fit decent in those and they need almost no space for a box. Hmm..

And no, i'm not interested in a single 10". I need my cargo room and don't like obvious systems.

edit: Forgot to add, that's not the way the speakers came factory in the back (at least not in my car). Your car should of had some metal plates that were the right size to hold 6 1/2" speakers. You'd have to take them out anyways of course, just figured i'd note that.
