will a bolt in 4 point roll bar do anything for handleing in a crx? what about if i weld it in instead of using the bolts? and has anyone ever added on to make it a 6 point? also is it worth the wieght? this thing is a tank.

Are you tracking your rex? It's pointless and dangerous in a DD.
I don't think the handling benefits are worth the weight, but the safety benefits while at the track definitely are.

Re: FV-QR (black0hatch)
the bars themselves become a hazard when used on a DD (even with padding) , you might smash your skull on them, (unless you happen to be wearing a helmet) you may not enjoy that.

Re: FV-QR (grog)
4 point bolt ins are junk.
Really it's safer with out something like that.
What kind of racing will you be doing ? Get a hand book and see what's legal first off and we can help from there.

i really dont know where others are coming from.
6pt full rollcages are dangerous for the street and not recommended, imo.
a 4pt roll bar will be just great. even for the street.
i wouldnt consider it a handling device however. you can weld it in if you want. nothing stopping you.

Re: bolt in roll bar (Tyson)
I don't know what any of the others are talking about...
A 4-point roll bar will improve handling via less chassis flex... In a 4-point, there isn't really a chance of you hitting your head on it seeing as though the cross bar is seated behind and way above the seat. Unless your seat malfunctions, you can't hit your head on it. Welding it in would improve the reduction of chassis flex even more, but if you intend on getting a 6-point in the future, I wouldn't recommend it.
I am in the process of making my ef hatch a full track car. I am getting a 6-point roll cage, not only for safety but because it DOES improve handling.

Re: bolt in roll bar (eramthgin128)
It will also be beneficial if you want to use a harness which if used correctly will add safety and control since you are not moving around in your seat so much.
If your sole purpose is to eliminate chassis flex while driving on the street it will not be a dramatic improvement (depends what type of street you're on).
If you are going to build the vehicle into a "track" car then just save your money and build a 6pt.

quick suggestion go to yotube and watch some videos. In a high impact your more than likely going to hit that bar on the recoil.
Even with that nice 5pt belt...which is at least in the right place

it looks like there was a bunch of bars that got cut off that cage? so does your car handle good?

Re: (black0hatch)
It was a 6 point roll cage. I removed the sides bars and front bars. It's not the bars that will give better handling and the bars weigh alot! I still hear my car "flex". If you really want to renforce the chassis, it must be welded almost everwhere like a real race car.

Or, you could die in a rollover without one. I'm not trying to be a smartass, but I'm sure you could make up hypotheticals that would support either with or without. I'm not sure which would end up with a reduced fatality rate in the real world, but with the age of these cars, I wouldn't be surprised if the rollbar affords you slightly higher overall protection in a crash.
As to the original post, I did realize some reduced chassis flex when my 4-pt was bolted in as well. I'm glad I got it.

Majority of accident non track are collisions are front and rear collisions, on top of that the top injuries sustained during any vehicle accident is: whiplash, head trauma, and head trauma...so putting a bar there for looks defeats the purpose without the proper equipment. Roll overs although to occur it wouldn't be to smart to have solid object where your water membrane head is rushing towards at the rate your car was travelling...watermellon cement and a little objects in motion tend to stay in motion.
A roll cage can do both harm and save your life, yet there is purpose and instruction to all tools so they are used in the proper manner and function.
doing this on a small laptop sorry for spelling erros

Re: bolt in roll bar
I would have to say if you have never been on track, go to the track first and talk to some people then decided what to do from there. I see lots of wasted money on track from things people bought that do nothing for them but add weight.
Secondly as an instructor if I do not feel the car is safe or its safety equipment is proper I will not get in the car and pull the tech inspector over.
